Cary wasn’t sure how she got herself in this mess. She did not know what took over her when she asked for combat, nor did she know how she reached the training field. She saw Wei Wuxian walking up to the training field. She had not paid attention to who was being chosen as an opponent. Realizing who it was, she hated Jiang Fengmian even more. That coward, afraid of losing his shield, made Wei Wuxian her opponent. If she is her sister she would cut slack which might mean she won’t be able to prove herself. Yet if she doesn't go soft on him, then it would just raise questions as to what type of sister she is, just to prove her words true, she would hurt her own brother. Doubts would rise in people’s minds. Yanli might also think Cary is unable to take care of Wei Wuxian.

She was lost but she knew she needed to do this. For Wei Wuxian. For her efforts. For the future, and most importantly, for Wangxian. She saw Wei Wuxian stand infront of her with a look of hesitance, she couldn’t help but smile at him. Though it took a lot of strength to stretch her lips into a smile. She still doesn’t know why she felt so connected to Wei Wuxian, but she did. So she will protect him.

She saw a sliver of hope in his eyes, before he attacked. The blades clashed as the sound carried out all around the training field. Many people were watching. This made Cary very scared. This was the first time someone was actually looking at her fighting with a sword. She had tried moves with wooden swords before, and she was great at fencing but they were different from actual combat with real swords. Not to mention, spiritual swords. She was no fool, she knew Wei Wuxian is one of the strongest cultivators in this generation. Yet as she moved forward to stop the attack, she felt a weird power fighting on her behalf. It was almost as if the sword was fighting on its own.

Yet she had control, her mind had control over the sword. It felt strange but it was not the time to ponder upon them. She kept defending herself instead of attacking. She gave her all to make sure her ability was proved and Wei Wuxian was not hurt. She saw him being surprised by her restriction, she saw something that could almost be named as respect and love. She saw him look around the training field. Had it been someone else, she would have taken advantage of her opponent’s momentary distraction. Yet her hands froze. For some reason, she couldn’t bring herself to attack him first.

Instead, she just kept staring at his face as he looked at the Jiang family. Digesting their reaction. She could almost hear the thoughts forming in his head. Suddenly, tears started falling down his eyes. Cary couldn’t understand the pain she felt from his tears, but she wanted to wipe them away. Subconsciously she called out “A-Xian” but he didn’t turn. She held out her hand and put it on his shoulders, slowly wiping away his tears. He seemed to not have noticed he was crying. She called again “A-Xian”.

The Jiang family ran towards him, pushing Cary to the side, Jiang Wanyin held his shoulders, violently shaking him, shouting nonsense of “quit your drama” and “control your tears” and “man up”. It was horrible to the ears. Enraged, Cary pushed him aside before saying, “Move away from my brother. You are clearly hurting him.”

CARY: Uncle Jiang, my sword formations are similar to my mother’s and you have seen it. I have given enough proof. Even though I have not used my power, the fact that I know details about it should be enough proof. The way your son treats my brother is unacceptable to me. I request you to give me my rights to Yilling and A-Xian. I promise you, even if he stays with me, he will never cease to be your family. As a thanks for taking care of my brother for so many years, I, Wei Zhouxuan, promise you, if needed, I will protect your people and your children with my life and core. Please stop using my brother as you son’s shield.
