It has been five years since you stopped being able to hear the Goddess Hylia. Five years since the morning Hylia whispered in your ear for the last time. '(Y/N),' her angelic voice sang through you, 'you are ready. It is time for you to learn the true nature of your abilities. This is a journey of self-discovery that you must go through alone, without my guidance.'
Before you could ask her any questions-- a sign of what to look for, a clue, or anything-- she was gone.
The solution wasn't as simple as last time. After you woke up from the Calamity unable to hear the Goddess, you found your abilities again by recovering your stolen sword-- the royal sword wielded by the head of the royal guard, which was also the Bow of Light in disguise. Touching that sword reawakened your powers before, but that was impossible now. Once Link used the Bow of Light to defeat Dark Beast Ganon, it returned to the Sacred Realm where it was created. It served its purpose.
Reawakening your abilities was a task you had to face alone.
Thankfully, you weren't really alone. After rescuing Zelda from her 100 year prison, you and Link took her to your home in Hateno. To recreate a quiet and private study room, Zelda commissioned Bolson to add an expansion to the house. Bolson repurposed the well in the back to be an underground room. A ladder down the well landed on a wooden flooring which supported a modest office, complete with a desk, bookshelves, and plenty of storage. It became her sacred space, and others could only enter by invitation.
Shortly after you lost Hylia, Zelda could tell something was wrong. You seemed to lose your sparkle. So she invited you to meet her in her underground study so you could tell her what was wrong in a safe space.
She didn't seem too surprised when you told her what Hylia said.
"When my mother passed," She said, "I had no one who could teach me how to awaken my power. Her sacred power came naturally to her. It seemed to overflow from her spirit. Without her guidance, I instead trained myself using the sacred traditions. I was dressed in pure white and gold adornments with symbols of the royal family, and I traveled across Hyrule to visit each of the Goddess springs. It is said that those springs create ley lines into the Sacred Realm, and praying in their waters connects the devotees directly to the spiritual world." She gave you a look of inspiration. "(Y/N), that's what you should do as well. Maybe if you visit those ancient sites the same as I did, you can reawaken your power."
Before you left for the Spring of Wisdom, Link helped you pack. He wanted to go with you, but his responsibility as appointed knight required him to remain by the princess's side. He wrapped a coat around you and gave you a gentle kiss on the cheek. "Come back safe," He said. You smiled and gave him a hug before mounting your horse and headed north.
Mount Lanayru quickly grew colder the higher you climbed. Wisps of snow blew on your face, and you tucked your chin into the collar of your warm coat. The sun started to fall, giving you a good handful of hours before you needed to head back at dark.
Stepping off of your horse, you prepared for your ritual. You took off your coat and felt the sharp cold wind breathe against your skin. Although you didn't have an inherited ceremonial dress like Zelda, you wore white linen robes that flowed modestly to your ankles.
You waded into the freezing waters and approached the Goddess statue. She stood over you, beautiful as always, with her hands in prayer and two wings open behind her head. Looking at her gave you warmth in the frozen waters, and you clasped your hands to begin to pray.
You opened your heart and felt the world around you-- the cold wind combing your hair, the gentle babble of the spring's flowing water, the stillness of the lonely mountain summit-- but... you didn't feel anything awaken in you.
