*Alastor's POV*

The demon with me has explained that his name is Vox and that he's a former member of the V's. He recently cut ties with his comrades because they didn't approve of his friendship with me and (y/n). Now they're holding (y/n) hostage with plans to kill her. I can't let that happen.

My shadow has been acting very angry ever since Vox came running to the doorstep of the hotel. Angrier than anything I remember before. I know (y/n) is important to me, but she must be very important if my shadow is this out of sorts. I can't think of any other reason it would be acting this way.

Once we make it to the tower I notice the three letter V's at the top of the tower. So, Vox must be telling the truth. He was a part of their company, but recently left their corporation.

"They must be up a few floors." Vox explains as he looks at the entrance. He pulls a card out of his jacket with a big smile. "No worries, I still have my elevator card. We should be able to get there with minimal issues." He says confidently.

That's interesting. His past associates are so angry with him that they would go so far as to kidnap one of his friends, but not remove his access to the building?

My shadow keeps looking at me and bouncing back and forth the wall, shaking with anger. I wonder...

"Alastor!" Vox interrupts my thoughts, pulling me out of my confusion. "Now's not the time, buddy. We have to get moving before they do anything to (y/n)." He explains.

"Yeah, you're right." I agree. Luckily, I still know how to use my abilities. Anyone who gets in the way will die.

Once the doors to the main floor open, we notice there's no one around. That seems strange. I would think this building would be swarming with demons defending the two masterminds of the operation.

Things don't feel like they're adding up.

"Alastor, come on." Vox again gathers me from my thoughts as he holds the elevator open.

I walk to the elevator cautiously. We still don't get any interference from anyone in the building. He presses a button to a floor higher up, way above where we are now.

"When we get to them, be ready for anything." Vox explains. "Valentino is a close-range fighter, he's not much use if you keep your distance." He begins giving tips of his past associates.

"Good to know. And Velvette?" I ask.

"She..." Vox stops for a minute and sighs. "She uses bottles of liquid as a distraction. She'll throw them or release fumes, which many think are dangerous. They're harmless. What you really need to watch out for is her damn claws. When they're out, they're deadly." He explains, a sad look on his face.

"I appreciate the heads up. I know it must not be easy going against your past friends." I explain to him.

"You... you have no idea." Vox looks away as he makes that statement. It must be very hard for him to look at his old friends, knowing he's fighting against them instead of with them. It's never easy seeing an old friend become an enemy, especially when they're right in front of you.

"Well, when we get out of here, alive..." I put my hand on his shoulder, making him look back at me. "...why don't we go out for a drink? I'm sure it will be well deserved." I know I always smile, but I hope he can see that this one is genuine.

It takes a second, but eventually Vox smiles back. "Y-yeah. I would really like that, Alastor." He says slowly.

It's interesting. That statement he just said seems so truthful and genuine. But why does that stick out if everything he's been telling me up to now has also been truthful?

I hear the elevator doors ding as it stops. But this isn't the floor we chose. There must be someone else on the other side. I instinctively summon a few of the black tentacles I can control, ready for whatever is on the other side of the elevator.

"Whoa, slow down Alastor. This isn't what we-" Vox stops himself as if he's trying to figure out how to explain. His eyes are frantically looking around. "Just, hold on." He asks.

"If they know where (y/n) is, then they better speak up." I explain angrily as the doors finally open. Before I can even see who is on the other side, I send one of the tentacles to push them against the nearest wall. I hear them thud, I know I wasn't gentle. Once we get out of the elevator, we see that it's a female demon holding some sort of dress in her hand. She looks very confused and frightened.

"Oh, no no no no." Vox begins rambling, holding his screen. "Alastor, wait!" He please.

"What have you all done with (y/n)?" I ask the girl, anger dripping from every word to show I'm not messing around.

"What? Who?" The girl asks as she drops the dress and kicks, trying to get out of my hold. She looks over to Vox. "Vox? What's going on?" She asks him.

Why is she asking him?

"Answer my question or die. It's very simple." I bring her focus back to me. I can see the tears in her eyes. She seems lost, but I will get my answer. Or she will die.

"I-I don't think she knows, Alastor." Vox explains hesitantly. "I think she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She's supposed to be off today if I remember right." It's like Vox is more talking to her than he is to me.

"Th-that's today?!" The girl looks shocked as she looks back at me. "Oh no! I'm sorry Vox! I didn't mean to get in the way!" She starts sobbing.

In the way?

"In the way of what?" I ask her.

Before I can get any answers, Vox walks up closer to the girl. Without saying anything she goes from sobbing to nothing. Like a zombie. It's like she's in some sort of trance just by looking at his face. Her entire body goes limp as she continues mindlessly staring at him.

"She won't tell us anything. Her memory has been wiped." Vox explains as he looks back at me. "She works for Velvette; it must be her doing." Vox looks angry. "That means they know we're in the building. We need to be careful. Velvette can be ruthless. Let's go, Alastor." Vox says as he begins walking back to the elevator.

I watch Vox walk to the elevator and then look back at the mindless demon girl. She still looks like she's in some sort of trance. Her eyes have an interesting blue and red circular hue in them. Did Vox do something?

Things are seeming off. (y/n) told me earlier that my intuition is usually right. My intuition is telling me I'm falling into a trap.

Who's my real enemy here? Velvette and Valentino? Or all three of the V's, including Vox?
