Chapter 2
Heart pains

Caroline Turner POV
_________________________________________________________________________
I could tell something was happening the minute I walked to the front desk and all Eye's felt in me. I'd just clocked in and pulled my hair back and straightened my uniform. It was a weekend evening so I already expected it to be busy. People had been paid which meant drinking and parties. We'd be busy and time would fly by.

I was grateful for the head nurse as she handed me a small porcelain cup with dark brown liquid. The cup was teeny tiny and I could only handle it with three fingers. I looked at her and glanced down at the cup raising an eyebrow.

"Is it like a shot of coffee?" I asked quizzically. I knew it wasn't alcohol. I sniffed it as dainty as I could. She laughed and shook her head. Jackie, was an older nurse somewhere in her fifties. She had a kind face with barely a wrinkle. Her short white bob groomed immaculately bounced as she chuckled. Her dark brown eyes gleaming. I knew that look, she was fishing to tease me.

"You look like you had a long night." Her smile indicated that she was hoping I'd say a man kept me up. These nurses could gossip like church women. " That'll perk you up for your patient. " Jackie winked at me. I rolled my eyes playfully and laughed, my laughter ricocheted off the deathly quiet hall.

"If I had a handsome man like that as my patient ,I'd perk up real fast without the help of that." Amelia said pointing to my cup. She looked like a lovesick school girl. Whoever was in there was her type. Ameia was gorgeous. Tall, thin legging blonde with pale hair and stunning green eyes. Everyone called her the starlet. I was surprised she hadn't been requested. It happened a lot whenever a man caught a really good glance at her. She usually recalled all her marriage proposals and men's pick up lines at the end of her shift. Took an hour to get through all her stories on a slow night.

"Should I look for a ring?" I joked. Suddenly I had everyone's attention. I hated when people looked at me, especially as a group. I wasn't one who ever liked the spotlight. "What?"

"We already checked..unmarried." Jackie's deep rich tone was laced with desire. God above who was this man? Did I want to be alone with him?

"Okay, well clearly one of us needs to work so I should go check up on my patient, chart please." Amelia kept staring up at the window, her elbows on the desk and she sighed. I put the chart up to my face to hide my amusement. She was definitely in love.

"I tried to wait on him, and said he was fine with the nurse assigned already." Her pout deepened as she spoke. He was either blind or I had previously waited on him and made an impression. I was going to stick with blind.

I glanced down at the clip board, he was in for chest pains. Why wasn't a doctor coming in with me if it was that serious. "Luca Changretta." I said the name out loud trying to get a feel for it in my mouth before I spoke. I hated fumbling names. Just seemed disrespectful.

"He's well dressed, has a tailor you can tell and his shoes are polished to perfection." She was in love with this man.

"Did you see his address?" Amelia peppered me with information. This was getting tedious to me. I didn't care where someone lived, what they wore or where they had come from. All I cared about was them being decent people to me and going home. In my experience none of that had to do with money, manners were important, rich or poor.

I smiled as I turned and walked across the hall. I heard groaning from behind me as I closed the door. Definitely lovesick nurses. I didn't even have time to look up before his rich, deep and gravelly voice flooded my head.
