Bouncing bundles of joy

I was more than happy to lay back and eat my mother in law's food after giving birth to two healthy babies weighing at 7 pounds each.
They may have come early but both were healthy.
I knew Luca didn't believe me but I honestly felt so much better after getting rid of my weight that had been bearing down on me all these months. My back and hips appreciated the release.
Carlo Changretta and Lucia Changretta were born several hours after my arrival to the hospital. I think Luca was more nervous than I was.
One girl, one boy. One of each. It was perfect.
Carlo was grumpy and seemed to only want to be particular on who was allowed to hold him. It was never for long. He had his fathers dark hair with warm honey brown eyes like his grandfather and grandmother.
He was going to be a ladies man.
Lucia had dark hair as well but my cornflower blue eyes had won out surprisingly. She and her brother had softer features like me. They were perfect.
She liked being held and fussed over, the bell of the ball. Luca seemed to think she'd be more trouble then her brother. She had my smile, eyes and apparent social butterfly temperament.
I was glad to have run into Luciano Changretta at the bar that night. I couldn't imagine my life now. I'd still be running or most likely dead, if that was my step mothers intent. I had been filled in on her motivation and recent wedding.
I knew we still had challenges outside the family, threats and enemies. I wouldn't end until we passed on.
I just knew however that we were safe, loved and everything in this moment was perfect.
Just like us.
