Breakfast and Bruschetta with Changretta
Chapter 3Luca's Pov ***
True to my word I'd had an associate's wife pick something out to buy for her. I had it sent to the nurses station. I figured I'd buy her a dozen red roses too. Really set the tongues wagging with those nosey nurses.
I waited outside by the car, Frederico *and Matteo standing near me. We were deep in my territory so I wasn't worried but waiting in the open. We'd been joking and laughing about getting more sun while we waited for her to come out then we'd gotten in years. We were generally shuffling from one place to the next all over New York. Work didn't stop for us. There was always a deal, a new business expansion or a person to sort out. The thought of a normal day was appealing to me.
She was worth the wait. I knew that before I saw her bounce down those steps, her blond hair loose, unfashionable by today's standards. I loved long hair on a woman though and that dress...molded to her curves like perfection. I knew the skinny androgynous look was all the rage but I liked my women to look healthy and curvy. She was grinning and clutching the roses to her chest.. She laughed and brought the bouquet up to hide her face. She looked like a blushing bride. That made me happy to see her enjoying my gifts.
"Ready for breakfast?" I asked opening up the door for her by myself. I wanted to show her my manners and my restraint. If she could get comfortable with me, maybe she'd mate with me sooner rather than later. There wasn't a huge rush yet, but in a week there would be. My ma was coming to visit my sister, and she'd heard about my mate from the both of us. Of course she wanted to meet her baby boy's beautiful woman. Problem was she wasn't mine. Yet.
"I'm starving." She said, kissing me on the cheek and getting into the car. She got herself settled as I watched her. I stood still for a moment. I was getting hungry too, it wasn't for breakfast.
I was losing my patience rapidly when we were close.______________________________________________________
We sat down at the restaurant and waited. I was too antsy for this. I knew my hand waving back and forth was putting her on edge. She grabbed my hand and placed them into her tiny ones, settling me down. That gesture while sweet amused me. It annoyed her. I had to remember that so I didn't get scolded with a rolling pin if I tried doing it during a fight to hurry her along.
"So I have some news for you." I began slowly. Her face was bright, happy and cheerful. We'd see after a few minutes of my talking if it stayed that way. She was a jumpy girl. I couldn't risk her running off again. She'd probably move states this time.
"Oh? I like news, if it's good." She flashed me a huge grin and squeezed my hand. I couldn't imagine a more perfect Mate for me. I was known to be a bit moody, grumpy my ma always said. She was a ray of sunlight, bubbly and happy and blonde. Just how I liked my American women.
"Both pieces of news are exciting to me, at any rate. You'll like the first one the most I'm guessing." She sat up straight, excited, practically bouncing in her seat.
" My sister is due to have her baby soon." she squealed with excitement. God, this broad. She made my heart do little flips. " and my mama is coming from Birmingham to help. Should be here in about a week." I said calmingly watching her face.
"Oh! I get to meet your mom!" She was excited. Great for me so far.
"Okay, so I get to meet your mom, sister and hold a baby. I love babies! What else?" She asked quizzically, batting her baby blues at me. This dame was dangerous. I'd give her the whole world right now if she asked, no questions.
