 Nothing you can say

It wasn't the greeting I expected. I came home with roses and her favorite baked goods. I missed her dearly.

A part of me also wanted to make up for the news I would have to tell her later about her father.

"I'm home." I called out to a fairly quiet house. I looked around and my ma's frantic movement got my attention. What was she waving at me like that for?

My mother was wide-eyed in the living room rising to meet me, her head vigorously shaking. She was trying to tell me something, no, she was trying to warn me about something. She looked panicked so naturally I reached for my gun.

"No Luca,go." She yelled and looked down at the couch where I saw my mate's beautiful champagne blonde head.

Her hand came up waving me away but it was too late. I locked eye contact with my beloved.

"Go!" She mouthed. Shit, what had happened?

My beautiful woman turned slightly glaring at me from the couch. I could feel anger radiating off of her from the door. Caroline, well she was ready to murder.

"What, I haven't even been her to say or do anything to mess up. Look Tesoro, I bought your favorites." I crossed the room with her head following my movements. Her eyes flashed with rage and her sweet lush mouth was pulled tightly into a harsh line. She was pissed.

I looked at her belly and held my hands up in surrender. Geez, who the fuck had died?

Okay I knew that answer to that but there was no way, none that she would know.

I walked towards her keenly aware to keep as much furniture between us as possible in case she was ready to make the promise etched on her lovely face a reality. Definitely wanted to kill me.

"What happened?!" I demanded placing the box and flowers on the table. I looked at my mom. She looked upset but there was something else. It was that soft look of pity on her face when I said or did something idiotic and I should know better.

I'd already spoken to Caroline on the phone so she knew I was coming home, hell she knew why I'd gone to detroit so what gives.

"You didn't come home right away and it was hours past, so naturally when the phone rang in your office I made the mistake of picking up the phone thinking you were wounded or dead. That's what happened?" I sucked in a breath. I knew now what was going on. I had one rule, she couldn't pick up my business phone. That line was only for Mafia business. She knew better. My men would never have called to tell her ANYTHING about my physical condition. We had a plan in place in case something happened, why didn't she remember it?

"Well Caroline, I ain't a mind reader, why are you angry? You know better than to touch my personal line. We have a plan if something happens to me eh? My men come here and personally tell you, so who did you pick up that phone?!" I was pissed. Matching her aggression in tone.

" Oh Luca, stupid." My mother said sadly as she stood to go look out the large window. I knew this was about to be a massive argument. We were passionate people, we loved and spoiled each other with unbridled passion but when we were slighted, oh, heaven and hell would weep.

" I'm leaving, you two can handle this on your own." I nodded mechanically as my man gathered her things. Thank God that women could read a room like no other.

I glanced at Caroline who sat on the red settee glaring at me. She would get really mad if she realized how beautiful she looked right now. Her jaw was set pushing out her pouty lips, her eyes slant, even in anger she looked ready to sex with her eyes half lidded. Her arms were crossed over her full belly.
