"Yeah, I'm crazy good at basketball. I was about to go D1, but I fucked up my knee. Decided engineering might've been the best thing for me," the guy said.

Nai looked at the guy. He was handsome. I mean, smooth dark skin, full beard, pretty teeth. But when he opened his mouth and began to speak, all interest was lost.

He was arrogant, self-centered, and a mama's boy.

She knew that this would be the last time ever talking to him. And she wished that she was no longer sitting at this table.

She was dating around. Trying to find someone to settle down with. And none of these people were what she was looking for.

Good looks, distasteful personality. None of them shared the same values, or were willing to open their minds to them.

Quite frankly, they couldn't do anything for her.

It kind of seemed like she didn't really know what she was looking for anymore. She just knew it wasn't them.

"Wow," she forced a small smile and an interested tone, only giving him more leadway to talk more about himself. He hadn't even asked her about her day.

"Can I get the check for you guys?" the waitress asked as she walked by. Nai nodded, "Split it, please. And a togo box would be appreciated." The waitress nodded and walked away.

"You think I can't pay for the both of us? I'm a engineer. I mean, not on the cocky shit, but I make good money," he chuckled.

"Oh, I'm sure you do," she sighed with a fake smile.

"At least you ain't no gold digger. My mama always told me to stay away from those. I'm too much of a good guy for those type of people. She'd be pleased to meet you, even though she don't warm up easily," he chuckled.

"Y'know, Donovan, you're a very handsome guy, and you've got your life together. That's great, it really is, but I don't think I'll be meeting your mom," Nai said very honestly.

His brows furrowed and eyes squinted. Shocked wit rejection, huh?

"I'm sure you're a prize and all that, just not for me," she added.

The waitress brought the separate checks and togo box back. Nai put a $50 bill in the book and closed it back before transferring her untouched pasta into the box.
