Jon Snow had grown up as the bastard prince of king's landing. While he had his father's favor it wasn't hard to see that he was still treated differently from his half siblings. Especially his brother Aegon who was the heir and true born son of King Rhaegar. For the most part, Jon accepted this and knew his place well. He never had a desire to rule, he had enjoyed fighting so most of his time in kings landing had been spent learning from the best knights. Ser Barristan often trained him and Aegon and it was clear that Jon would excel in this skill.

Before he came to officially reside in Winterfell he had only been there a few times in his youth to meet his mother's side of the family. Whenever he would go there, the Starks were always welcoming and treated him well. The Stark siblings dynamic was also one he enjoyed being apart of. Robb, being the same age as him, had easily become his best friend  and when he left Winterfell to go back to King's Landing it had been hard for him to leave. He and Robb promised to exchange letters and so they did. The only thing or rather only person Jon truly looked forward to seeing in Kings Landing was his sister Rhaenys. They were always close, always playing together, and she had never made him feel like he was anything less. Whenever anyone would make some comment about him she never failed to stick up for him, telling them that the next time they spoke ill of the son of the king there would be major consequence. He knew there probably wasn't much that would happen, but he appreciated the fierce look in her eyes whenever she defended him and how she would grab his hand to pull him away. Her touch always left him feeling warm. Whenever he thought of his sister Rhaenys now it often brought him to sadness as he remembered the events that led to him leaving Kings Landing for good.

It had been the second time he had returned to king's landing from Winterfell and he could tell something had changed. Rhaenys didn't look too pleased and neither did the Queen. When Jon saw Rhaenys walking alone he went to her to see what was troubling her.
"Hello Rhae, are you alright?  you've seemed troubled ever since I've returned..." He said to her.
"No I am not. While you were away at Winterfell father decided on my fate," She said bitterly. Jon looked at her confused by what she meant and then she continued," He has betrothed me to Aegon. We are to wed next year." At her words Jon's chest suddenly tightened and he felt a fire within his stomach that he'd never felt before. He knew that these weren't feelings one should have when their sister is betrothed, but usually one doesn't get betrothed to their own kin. It was the Targaryen way, but he thought things were changing considering Dany's betrothal to Robb. He pushed those feelings of discomfort aside however and did the best he could to seem indifferent.

"That is the way of the Targaryens, I suppose it shouldn't come as a shock," He said calmly as he watched Rhae's brows furrow.

"Is that all you have to say? Truly?" She said in disbelief.
"What else can I say? Father has spoken and his word is law." At his words she scoffs and stops to look at him.
