Deneo turns the geyser on for a short while, opting for a lukewarm shower to rid the sweat off her body.
Hungered Deneo nibbles on the toppings off the sandwiches she prepares, glugging down a refreshing glass of Coke before taking her seat.
By the time she is done eating Deneo takes a nap, tired of binge watching 'The Bachelor' waiting for Dolly and Nate to get back home.
The nap is reinvigorating. As they converse over her appointment this morning it seems Dolly doesn't detect any signs of agitation from her sister. So Deneo keeps the news of Nara's call to herself, for now - wishing to no longer be triggered by it when she comes clean.
After eating and chatting with her siblings, Deneo decides to take an evening walk around the complex with her brother, who parts from her at some point - going to gym.
On her way back to the apartment Deneo gets a call from Lucky's usual number. She answers at the second ring.
"Lucky!" She voices in relief.
"It's me Deneo," a familiar gentle voice sounds and Deneo rolls her eyes, her heart thumping at each spoken word. "Don't hang up please. I'm begging you. I'm calling to apologise for earlier. I was acting out of character. I was just scared, and, well, furious, to be honest. I cannot imagine Lucky, after 5 solid years of being together, wants to break our family apart and live like he never loved me. I'm fiercely attached to this man Deneo. I went through labour three times because of him," Nara adds berfore remaining silent.
"So, you were calling just to apologise? Because I have nothing more to say to you," Deneo lets out - still feeling resentful.
"Well, I was also hoping we'd talk?"
"What about?" Deneo throws loosely, her patience spent.
"Deneo, please don't do this," Nara unexpectantly implores. "I'm begging you Deneo," Nara then voices and Deneo's eyes bulge in shock. Deneo then hears tiny sobs and her heart goes from stone to flesh.
"Don't cry Nara. God will love and watch over you and your children. You don't have to be scared thinking you're alone in this."
"What? How dare you!"
"Uhm, sorry? What did I say to reignite your anger?"
"Are you so smug you think my future is in your hands? Lucky loves me, he needs me, he said so himself. He, I quote "cannot live without [me]."
"Oh? Well, I was under the impression you were trying to live a moral life? Why on Earth are you telling me all this?"
"To make you jealous. I know you love him Deneo. You find some sick satisfaction in having him terminate his marriage. Even if that means you can't have him."
"All you need to do is read the Bible Nara. You didn't have to hear these things from me."
"I do read the Bible, Deneo. I read it every day and I can tell you the things you were telling Lucky were implausible. Why would God care about virginity before marriage if Christ died for our sins and in Him we become a new creation."
"Oh, my, God."
"Pardon me? Are you talking down to me right now?"
"Lucky knows the bible better than you. Let him teach you what he already knew and then what I taught him."
"You're not as smart as you think you are. You are guilty of an ad hominem fallacy. In other words logically refute what I said instead of criticizing me.
"I can't go through that entire dialogue again Nara, it was tedious. But I can tell you this: read at least Romans 6 and you'll know you can't only read the New Testament and think you're saved. God tells us what sins are in the Old Testament, so unless you want to go to Hell, do not ignore His doctrines, okay? Bye now?"
"Don't cut me off again, I still have one or two things to tell you before you do..."
"Okay?"
"I know Lucky. I know him enough to understand that without your presence in his life he can forget all that you manipulated him to believe and stay married to me."
"You're telling me to abandon him to sin?"
"I'm telling you we made a commitment before God and come Hell or high water, we are going to stay married till death parts us."
"I doubt God will leave you two to live happily ever after."
"Which God? Your God is an illusion. Our Father in heaven? That God? He hates divorce. I'm not about to listen to you and break God's commands because I believed your deluded lies. And then you wonder why I'm triumphing in life and your life is going nowhere slowly..."
"Things of this world are not as important to me as they are to you Nara."
"The root of all evil is not money but the love of it - when you make money your master and break commandments just to make a buck, for instance."
"You love glamour, you think money is not your master? How about all the deceitful things you do to keep your TikTok thriving?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"That's actually not as important as you sinning with Lucky, so we don't have to get into it."
"Whore! We're married! Our relationship is sacred. Your fantasies about my husband however, are not."
"I've been meaning to ask Lucky, but forget, how's Gravity doing? Does he even know with you and him moving towns while she's schooling."
"That's none of your Godd*mn business! You're nothing to Gravity. Stay in your lane Deneo."
"Where's that? I'm nothing to any of you as long as you stay in sin."
"Oh? So you'll steer clear of him if he decides to stay married - as he should?"
"I've told him that in not so many words."
"Great. And you'll unpublish the book from Wattpad?"
"That I will not do. It's my art, my experience, my bread and butter at some point, hopefully."
"Okay, but you can change a few details here and there to stay out of trouble, surely?"
"Like what?"
"You're smart, figure it out."
"Oh, when it suits you, I'm smart?"
"Goodbye Deneo? I wish you well in your present and future endeavours?" Nara expresses before a giggle escapes her lips. Deneo sticks her tongue out, glad Nara can't see her immaturity.
The call ends.
