Rain sat curled up in Phayu's lap, looking for all in the world like he was fast asleep, but Phayu knew that was a ruse. Rain was in his mind, and Phayu knew that his full focus was on Uncle White. He was guarding his spill of energy as well, which made him tensed up, his eyes closed to all outside distractions. The discomfort of his Draugs was a living, breathing entity inside of him, so he slowly rubbed circles of Rain's lower back, ensuring a soothing rhythm as he watched Uncle Sean pace around his parents' salon for probably the infinitieth time since Uncle White had left. Phayu couldn't blame the man. If Rain had been where Uncle White was right now, he would have been tearing his hair out. It was a wonder that all Uncle Sean was doing was just pacing around.
"You are thinking too loud again Phi Mate," Rain's voice whispered in his mind and Phayu hid a smile. His Draugs sounded extremely grumpy and irritated, so it probably wouldn't do to make it worse. "Sorry little one. Just worried about Uncle Sean and Uncle White," he said. "Uncle White is fine. I would know otherwise," Rain said, snuggling closer, his hands going infinitesimally tighter around Phayu. And Phayu knew well that Rain was not bragging. He was simply stating facts. He would really know if something was wrong. But Uncle White had been gone almost an hour. And he could feel the stress building in the room from every source. If he was feeling it so much, then Rain, who was so much more extraordinarily sensitive, was going to be even more troubled by all this presence.
He was about to recommend that they step out for a while, when Rain stirred in his lap. His eyes snapped open, showing that his powers were out again. "He wants to come back," was all he said, as he slipped down, and was immediately surrounded by Sky, Team and Pharm. They all stood again in a loose circle, and in about five minutes, White was materialising in front of everyone. Before he could even take a breath, he was swept off his feet by his Draugs. "Sean! You are crushing me Papii!" he said, his voice coming out all strangled. But Sean only adjusted his hold, not wanting to let go off his mate. All the others also heaved a sigh of relief. Only Rain and his gang looked like they were enjoying. "Okay, okay, let me go now. I have loads to tell you," White said, and Sean finally set him down and kissed his forehead. He sat first, pulling White as close to him as possible. Phayu empathised, and even though everyone rolled their eyes, he knew they did too. Having your mate in the line of fire, that vulnerable, it was brutal.
"So what do we know?" Type asked. "They are all neck deep in the conspiracy to overthrow our world," White said, plunging the room into pin-drop silence. 'What do you mean?" Vegas whispered, sounding choked. "The boys were right. This is not just about the Council. It is all about absolute power, and how it corrupts. Decha and the others, the members of the Council, are in cahoots with someone who they are all petrified of, someone who has promised them a lot of things. They are greedy, and want absolute power over humans and other creatures," White said. "But how will that help them?" Phayu asked, wonderingly. "It's simple Phi Mate. They feel that humans are nothing but cattle, to do as we will. They either don't have mates, or they don't care. For them, ruling over and supressing others, making them live in crippling fear, use them the way they want, that's all they are looking for," Rain said.
