The next morning, Harry woke up with a clearer mind than he had had in weeks. The knowledge that he wasn't carrying this burden alone was a comfort. The students of Hogwarts had taken the initiative, and while Harry had always thought he would need to do everything himself, it was becoming increasingly clear that he didn't have to.
He made his way back to the War Room, ready to continue where he left off the night before. The map of the UK still lay spread out on the table, the possible locations of the two remaining labs haunting the edges of his mind. But today, he would tackle another problem: the fortifications of Hogsmeade.
As he entered the room, he was greeted by a group of students—muggleborns and half-bloods—already hard at work. They had gathered around the table in the science wing, notes and diagrams scattered across every surface. A few of them looked up when Harry arrived, offering quick smiles and waves before returning to their research.
Harry approached Neville, who was carefully studying a set of traps Harry had brought back from the Muggle world the previous day.
"Morning, Harry," Neville said, looking up with a grin. "We've made some progress. The collar? We think it was a prototype."
Harry's brow furrowed as he pulled up a chair. "A prototype for what?"
Neville slid over a set of notes, filled with diagrams and explanations. "A control mechanism. It's designed to suppress magical abilities, but it's unstable. That's why it was so easy to break once you used Hogwarts' magic. We're thinking they haven't perfected it yet, but they're close."
Harry scanned the notes, his mind racing. "So, you think they're trying to develop something stronger?"
"Definitely," said Seamus, who was sitting nearby. "If they figure it out, they'll have a way to control wizards, maybe even strip us of our magic."
Harry's stomach tightened. "We need to stop them before they do. But that's going to be tough if we don't know exactly where the other labs are."
Seamus gave a small nod. "We've been working on that too. The two labs you overheard—one in the forest and one in the mountains—we've been narrowing down possible locations based on the descriptions."
Neville unrolled a smaller map of the UK, this one marked with several red dots. "The most likely location for the forest lab is here." He pointed to a dense, remote area in Northumberland, far from any major towns or cities. "It's isolated, but there's enough cover that they could hide a facility there easily."
Harry studied the map, nodding. "And the mountain lab?"
Seamus tapped a spot in the Cairngorms, deep in the Scottish Highlands. "We think it's somewhere here. It's surrounded by mountains, and there's almost no Muggle activity in the area."
Harry leaned back, feeling a sense of determination settle over him. "We'll need to confirm the locations. I don't want to risk sending anyone into a trap."
Neville's expression hardened. "We've got enough people to scout both locations, Harry. We just need a plan."
Harry rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "We'll get to that. But first, I need to make sure Hogsmeade is secure. I've been working on fortifications, and I think we're ready to take the next step."
Fortifying Hogsmeade
Later that morning, Harry, Luna, and Draco made their way down to Hogsmeade, where construction on the village's defenses was already underway. The goblins had begun building the new Gringotts branch, and many of the shopkeepers from Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, and Place Cachée were setting up their establishments, turning Hogsmeade into a bustling hub of magical commerce.
Harry had overseen much of the planning, and today he would meet with the goblins and the villagers to finalize the security measures.
They arrived at the edge of Hogsmeade, where the sound of hammers and construction magic filled the air. Madam Rosmerta, the owner of the Three Broomsticks, waved them over from outside her pub.
"Harry! You're just in time," she called, smiling brightly. "The goblins are almost finished with the first round of defenses. It's looking impressive."
Harry smiled back, feeling a surge of pride. "That's good to hear, Madam Rosmerta. I just need to check in with them and make sure everything is going according to plan."
Together, they walked through the village, admiring the progress. The goblins had fortified the village with magical wards, making it nearly impossible for any unauthorized Muggles or hostile wizards to enter. The stone Harry had ordered from the Muggle quarry was being used to reinforce key structures, adding an extra layer of physical protection.
At the edge of the village, Graglok, the goblin in charge of the Gringotts branch, was directing his crew. He gave Harry a respectful nod as they approached.
"Everything is going smoothly, Mr. Potter," Graglok said, his voice low and gruff. "The bank will be ready by the end of the week. And the wards around the village are stronger than anything we've seen in years."
Harry nodded. "Good. We'll need every bit of protection we can get."
Draco, standing beside Harry, scanned the work with a critical eye. "You've done well, Potter. These defenses are solid. But don't forget—Hogsmeade needs to be more than just a fortress. It's got to function as a community too."
"I know," Harry said, glancing around the village. "We're building more than just defenses. We're building a home for the magical world."
Luna, who had been quietly observing, spoke up. "The village feels different already, doesn't it? It's like it knows it's becoming something more."
Harry smiled softly. "Yeah, it does."
The Students' Efforts
As the day went on, Harry continued his work on Hogsmeade's fortifications, overseeing the installation of magical traps and defensive spells that would activate if anyone tried to breach the village's borders. But his mind kept drifting back to Hogwarts and the students who had been working tirelessly to support him.
Later that evening, when Harry returned to the castle, Luna and Draco met him again in the War Room, this time with a notebook filled with updates from the students.
"The muggleborns have made a lot of progress in the science wing," Luna said, handing him the notebook. "They've decoded most of the collar's magic. It's intricate, but they think they've identified the main enchantment that controls the mind. They're working on a counterspell."
Harry flipped through the pages, impressed by the detailed notes and diagrams. "This is incredible. They've done more than I ever expected."
"And the Ben Nevis fort?" Harry asked, turning to Draco.
Draco handed him another notebook. "The purebloods have organized it into a fully functional outpost. They've repaired the underground tunnels, set up a watch rotation, and installed defensive spells. They've even mapped out areas for future expansions, in case we need to turn it into a proper base."
Harry looked through the notes, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. "I don't know what to say... they've done so much."
"They believe in what you're doing, Harry," Luna said softly. "We all do."
Harry nodded, sitting down at the table. "I'm honored. And we're going to need every bit of help we can get if we're going to shut down those labs."
He glanced at the map of the UK again, his mind already planning the next move. They were close—so close to finding the remaining labs and ending the threat of the Muggle scientists once and for all.
But for now, he allowed himself a brief moment of satisfaction. Hogsmeade was stronger, the students were united, and the magical world was preparing for the future.
