Summary: Shawn and Lassiter are putting together a porch swing for the two to sit on when the weather is nice
Notes: originally the prompt for today was "Don't Do That!" "But..." but I couldn't think of anything for it, so I went ahead and chose another prompt extra: Porch Swing.
THEN I couldn't decide whether I wanted them to make it or just sit on it, so I went with both (so it's a mix of Shassie bickering and Shassie cuddling). Anyways, enjoy today's oneshot!

"Shawn, hand me the Allen Wrench." Lassiter asked, holding out a hand.
"On it, Carly."
Without looking, Lassiter grabbed the object Shawn placed in his hand. Right before he was about to use it, he noticed the tool he was holding was not the one he'd requested. "I said Allen Wrench."
"But that is a wrench."
"Yes, it's a wrench. But I asked for the Allen Wrench."
"Why did you name your wrenches? I mean, I'm not judging-"
"I don't name my wrenches! Allen Wrench is the official name for this." And with that, Lassiter reached over, extending well past his natural body length to reach the pile of tools near Shawn. From the stack, he grabbed the Allen Wrench, something that was vastly different from the regular wrench he'd been handed.
Shawn just looked in confusion. "Well, that's definitely not needlessly complicated at all." He said, a touch of sarcasm barely gracing his tone.
Currently, the two were working on building a porch swing they'd found at IKEA. Well, technically Shawn had found it and wouldn't stop begging Lassiter for it. Although his pleading for the swing wasn't necessary, considering Lassiter himself had been thinking about getting one for them to relax in. Originally it would have been a surprise, but this would do.
What Lassiter hadn't taken into account though was just how little Shawn knew about handy work. He'd only heard vague details about the time his boyfriend had to build a doghouse when he was a teen and was forced to finish building as an adult.
So Lassiter had — incorrectly — assumed that Shawn would at least know the names of a few of the tools and how to use them. I mean, who didn't know what an Allen Wrench was?
He'd also — again, incorrectly — assumed that Shawn had at some point taken up some job that required a certain level of knowledge in engineering. Or not even that, but just a basic understanding of how to operate power tools.
And yet Shawn never failed to surprise him.
Lassiter took a deep breath. In, hold it a few seconds, then out. "Okay. Just hold this piece here."
"One sec." Shawn scooched over to Lassiter's spot, being mindful of the different piles of bits and bobs lying around. He grabbed hold of the same piece Lassiter was holding on to. "Like that?"
"Yes, now just don't move, I need to put the screw in." He reached to a separate pile where the screws were, and grabbed the one that looked the most like the picture on the instructions.
"Actually, I was kind of thinking of moving it. Just a little bit."
"Not now, Shawn." Lassiter knew that Shawn was just trying to lighten the mood with his quips, but at that moment he needed to concentrate.
Carefully, he stuck the screw into the hole the instructions said it went in, and began twisting it in with his fingers before he went to use the Allen Wrench.
He only just started using the tool when Shawn stopped him. "Wait, stop. Why are you doing it like that?"
"Like what? This is how you're supposed to use an Allen Wrench."
"Well yeah, if you want to do it the slow way. Here lemme see it." And without waiting for an answer, Shawn grabbed the Allen Wrench from him.
Lassiter, not really sure how Shawn was going to make using it easier, just sat back and watched as he fiddled around with it.
Instead of putting the short end in the indentation of the screw — like Lassiter had been doing originally — he put the long end in. Then he gripped it in a way that allowed his thumb to sit on top of the short end, and he began to quickly rotate his thumb clockwise, the Allen Wrench following along smoothly and without trouble.
Lassiter just gaped. "What- how did you not know the difference between a wrench and an Allen Wrench, but you know how to use one?" Heck, he was sure hundreds of people didn't use it the way Shawn was using it. People who were experts, people who'd been using the tool for longer than the fake psychic.
And yet there he was, setting the Allen Wrench down after just a few seconds of use, the screw tight in its place.
Shawn simply shrugged. "I dunno, it seemed kind of obvious."
There were no words. Nothing was coming to mind. So Lassiter just shook his head and moved on. "Just- hand me piece 7b, it needs to go over here."
———
The sun was beginning to set when the porch swing was finally finished. It looked nice, especially considering the hours of work and bickering Shawn and Lassiter had put into it. It was all metal, and a nice deep slate gray color. The cushions were a mix of green and yellow, part of the reason why Shawn had wanted this one specifically.
The seat itself was just wide enough for two, so that's exactly what they did. Well, it was more of a collapse onto the seat. Shawn had fallen down on it first, and Lassiter fell after at an angle, which caused him to be partially sitting on Shawn and partially on the cushion.
Neither of them made to move, they didn't feel like it. Besides, why would they? It was comfortable enough, and they needed to sit.
So there they sat, watching the sun slowly go down. The sky turned into brilliant shades of blue and pink and purple. Lassiter was waiting for Shawn to point out the colors of the sky and call them 'bisexual sunset'. But apparently he was too tired, still resting his head against the cushion of the porch swing.
A breeze blew, gently rocking the swing forwards and then falling back again. The cycle repeated, and it lulled the two men into a sense of safety and security.
Lassiter couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so relaxed. But right now, sitting on their new porch swing slightly draped over his boyfriend and rocking back and forth, he could sit like this for hours.
