For a moment, the only sound was Harry’s quiet whimpering. Petunia let out a long breath, turning back to her sister.
Lily was staring at her, wide-eyed, her mind racing to make sense of everything she had just seen. “Petunia… how?”
“I’ll explain everything later,” Petunia said gently, kneeling beside her. “But right now, we need to get you and Harry out of here. It’s not safe.”
Lily nodded, still too weak to protest, and allowed Petunia to help her to her feet. Together, they walked out of the ruined house, Harry cradled in Lily’s arms. The night was eerily quiet, and the air was thick with the weight of what had just happened.
As they stepped outside, the sound of footsteps approached. It was Albus Dumbledore, arriving just moments too late, followed by Sirius Black. Both wizards stopped in their tracks when they saw Petunia standing there, her hands still faintly glowing with the remnants of her magic.
Dumbledore’s sharp eyes took in the scene, understanding dawning in his expression. “It seems, Ms. Evans, that there is far more to you than meets the eye.”
Petunia met his gaze steadily. “I’ve always done what I had to, Professor.”
Is she the same little girl who sent me a letter begging to attend Hogwarts, thought Dumbledore
Sirius rushed past them, his eyes only for Lily and Harry. Petunia watched as he took them into his arms, his relief palpable.
And for the first time, Petunia allowed herself to breathe,
"So you did become a witch, after efforts", Said Dumbledore with an unreadable expression on his face.
For this Petunia only answered with a dismissing," I'm no witch ".
