The early morning light filtered through the windows, casting a soft glow over the room. Mihitha stretched, her hand instinctively resting over her belly. The baby kicked lightly, a reassuring reminder of the life growing inside her. She smiled, feeling the warmth of anticipation mixed with a slight nervousness as her due date approached.

She glanced at the clock. Rudransh had already left for work, as usual, leaving the house quiet except for the occasional sound of the wind rustling through the trees outside. Mihitha had grown used to these moments of solitude, but today something felt different. There was a tightness in her abdomen that she hadn’t felt before, a strange, uncomfortable sensation that made her pause.

At first, she brushed it off as nothing. Her pregnancy had been mostly smooth so far, with only a few minor discomforts here and there. She had always prided herself on being strong, resilient, capable of handling whatever came her way. But as the minutes ticked by, the sensation intensified, becoming more than just a passing discomfort.

She frowned, placing her hands on her belly, trying to ease the growing pressure. “Is it time already?” she murmured softly to herself, her voice a mixture of excitement and apprehension.

The contractions were coming, she realized with a start. They were faint at first, almost like whispers, but growing stronger with each passing minute. Mihitha took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. She had read about this, prepared for it as much as she could. But no amount of reading could prepare her for the actual experience, the reality of it sinking in like a wave crashing over her.

Reaching for her phone, she hesitated. Should she call Rudransh now? He had been so protective of her lately, going out of his way to make sure she was comfortable and safe. His entire demeanor had changed as her pregnancy progressed, the cold, ruthless man she had once feared replaced by someone more tender, more vulnerable. But she didn’t want to worry him unnecessarily.

Still, the contractions were becoming harder to ignore.

Her fingers hovered over Rudransh’s contact number, but before she could press the call button, another sharp pain shot through her body. Mihitha gasped, clutching her belly as she doubled over slightly. This wasn’t like the little kicks or twinges she’d felt before—this was something else entirely.

This is it, she realized, her heart pounding. The baby was coming.

Without another thought, she dialed Rudransh’s number, the phone ringing in her ear as she tried to catch her breath. He answered almost immediately.

“Mihitha?” His voice was calm, but there was an underlying tension. “Is everything okay?”

“I... I think it’s time,” she said, her voice shaking slightly. “The contractions... they’ve started.”

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, she could hear nothing but the sound of his breathing. Then, his tone shifted—urgent, focused.

“I’m coming,” Rudransh said, and she could already hear the sound of him moving, his footsteps quick and determined. “Don’t move. I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

Mihitha hung up, her heart racing as another wave of pain hit her. She breathed deeply, trying to remember what the doctor had told her—stay calm, breathe through the contractions. But it was hard to focus when the pressure was so intense, when every muscle in her body seemed to be tightening at once.

Minutes felt like hours as she waited for Rudransh. The pain came in waves, each one stronger than the last, and by the time she heard the door slam open downstairs, she was gripping the edge of the bed, her knuckles white.
