The next morning Ash found himself walking to the bus stop in Vaniville town. He'd decided to take the bus today but he couldn't stop thinking about yesterday's conversation with Gary. Would it really be a great idea to go to his dumb party? Ash wasn't the most social person nowadays.
As he got on the bus he sat all the way in the back, alone and lost in his thoughts for a moment. Ultimately there was no going back now. He had to go to Gary's Halloween party and hope for the best. As he was zoning out he's suddenly tapped on the shoulder by a familiar looking Bluenette. Ash was startled a bit.
"Woah, hey there Ash. You're a little jumpy today aren't you?" She said, giggling as she took a seat next to him in the back.
"Where the heck did you even come from?" Ash asked still startled.
She giggled once again and grinned. "I'm just sneaky like that... mind if I sit here?"
"You know what? Sure why not?" He says shrugging. She smiled and sat next to him. Not like she was going to give him a choice anyway. As they settled in the back and the bus drove to Lumiose she couldn't help but feel curious about his background.
"Sooo Ash? You ever been to the Sinnoh region before? Or heard about it...? Dawn said trying to stir up a conversation with him.
"Oh yeah I've been there before. Got all the badges... entered the Sinnoh league... good times.." he said.
"Oh wow... that's cool," She nodded. "You ever been to twinleaf town?" She asked.
"No. I've heard about it but I never actually went to that town," He replied. She nodded. Their bus stopped abruptly at their stop and they both got off. They walked into the school together approaching the friend group.
"Hey Ash? So are you going to the party tonight?" She asked.
"Yeah I am... might as well," He said. As they approached Gary and the rest Gary whistled sarcastically.
"Woah! Look at Ashy-boy over here...getting at one of our own..." Gary chuckled. Ash shook his head in frustration.
"Can't even walk with a girl anymore... you're an idiot," He stated. The rest of the group chuckled in amusement while Dawn only blushed slightly. As the group continued chatting Barry approached running at full speed.
"Guys!! Guys!!!" Barry shouted out of breath. He nearly ran into Paul while trying to stop.
"Man chill out with that! What's your problem?" Paul said.
"Chill out?? These two trainers just asked if I wanted to battle them! But I need a partner because they wanted to do a tag battle," Barry explained.
"I don't have time for that," Paul said, clearly not interested. Trip also shook his head.
"Hey, I'll join you," Ash said. The rest of the group looked surprised. Ash had just voluntarily agreed to battle alongside. Paul and Trip actually looked intrigued to watch Ash battle again.
"You will??" Barry repeated.
"Yeah. Where are these guys at?" He inquired. Barry smiled and lead the way to a nearby battlefield inside the school. They could use it outside of class hours. Ash and Barry walked with Paul and Trip close behind. The rest of the group opted to watch from a distance.
One of the trainers approached Barry with a challenging smirk. "So, this your buddy here?" He asked.
"Yup. World class, one man army," Barry said.
Ash just shook his head in amusement. "Alright dummy let's just get this over with. Class starts in half an hour," He stated. The two boys took one side of the field while Ash and Barry took another.
"Alright Empoleon, Come out!!" He released his Pokeball revealing his Fully evolved Sinnoh starter.
"Empoleon huh... alright Hawlucha I choose you!" He tossed his Pokeball and out came Hawlucha.
Trip looked over at Paul. "Look how strong and ready his Hawlucha looks... that face just screams 'Who's ass am I kicking today," Trip said as they both chuckled. The other trainers had a Plusle and Minun which meant not a very good match up for Barry and Ash.
"Alright, BATTLE BEGIN!!"
"Empoleon use Hydro Cannon!"
Barry was going all out immediately as his Empoleon shot a huge amount of water towards the Plusle and Minun. They were able to quickly dodge the attack.
"Plusle use Discharge on Hawlucha!"
"Now, Hawlucha get in there and use High jump kick," Ash instructed. Before Plusle could even get its Discharge going Hawlucha sprinted towards Plusle with unbelievable speed and used it's knee to launch it straight into the air.
"What? But how?!"
"Spectacular..." Trip muttered.
Ash grinned. "Now finish it and use Flying press!" He ordered. Hawlucha opened its wings wide and completely slammed Plusle into the ground. It was unable to battle...
"Wow..." Barry said. "Heh, now Empoleon use Hyper Beam!"
Empoleon Charged its powerful Beam and unleashed it towards the terrified Minun. It was a direct hit and on the ropes.
"Now Hawlucha use Karate Chop!" Hawlucha once again flew this time dodging various discharge and Electro ball attacks from the Minun and Karate chopped it into the ground badly. This one was going to be injured for sure... unable to battle.
The two trainers were stunned at the quick result. They both retuned their Pokemon and approached Ash and Barry.
"Well you two were tough. Good battle," They said as they all shook hands. As the two walked off Barry turned to Ash.
"Wow Ash, that was spectacular stuff," Barry spoke. "We work well as a duo huh?"
"Work well as a duo? He practically carried your ass back there," Paul said approaching the two boys. They all chuckled amused by Paul's remark.
