Immediately all of the bikes had taken off and Cole took a step back into Saylor clearly a little shocked by how loud and windy it had gotten.
Once the cloud of sand had settled a distressed looking JJ Maybank desperately kicked at his bike which was still at the start line not a single inch further forward then before the race had started.
"Oh no." Cole whispered to himself as he watched JJ struggle to start his bike. "It's okay! You can do it!" He yelled out encouragement to the blonde boy.
With that JJs bike kicked into action and he sped of trying to catch up with the others who were a good distance ahead of him.
"Rafe Cameron gets the holeshot, beats the pack out front. He is baking down the straightaway!" The commentator enthusiastically narrated the race as the riders got further out of view.
"He's winning, he's at the front!" Cole exclaimed excitedly extending his arm in the air and giving both Saylor and Sofia a quick high five.
The riders were completely out of view at this point and all Saylor could do was hope they were all riding safely and not letting the Pogue Kook rivalry affect the race.
"We got some serious contact in the brush. It sounds like Topper didn't like Maybank crowding him there and taught him a little lesson." The commentator spoke into his microphone continuing to update the crowd. "Stuffed him like a Turkey"
Saylor let out an anxious breath, it was almost as if he worrying about it happening had made it happen. Of course the years long feud between the two groups couldn't be forgotten for one race, that's all she wanted. One stupid little race, but even that was too much to hope for.
"It looks like they are turning around the buoy. We've got Rafe Cameron still in front ahead of the group of riders. Cameron seems to have things well in hand. He's just got to coast it home. No mistakes and he should take home the Kildare Enduro."
"Come on Rafe! " Sofia cheered enthusiastically, the commentators seemed pretty convinced the Cameron boy was going to win the race.
"There's Maybank bringing up the rear. Tough race for him." The commentator then gasps at what he had seen on the screen. "Oh and he's down again in the deep sand!"
Saylor was to anxious to even think about cheering, she still couldn't see any four of the boys and she didn't care who won she just wanted the race to finish.
"Cameron and the other riders are half way through the trees at this point. Not a chance he's catching up with them."
Saylor knew what was going to happen before JJ himself had even convinced himself to make the jump. She knew took a deep breath as JJ sped up and headed towards the inlet.
"Looks like he's gonna try to jump the inlet!" The commentator confirmed what she already knew. "That's a 50 foot gap!"
"I don't wanna see." Cole swizzled on his feet scrunching his eyes closed and nuzzling his face info Saylors stomach.
Saylor clutched onto the back of his head making sure that he didn't move and turn his head incase he saw something neither of them wanted him too. She wished she could do the same but she physically couldn't peel her eyes away from JJ as his bike leapt into the air.
The three seconds he was in the air felt like 3 minutes but the second his wheels hit the ground with him still attached to the bike she let out a deep breath and re filled her lungs.
"He did it!" She exclaimed with more excitement in her voice than intended, the relief evident on her face. With a squeeze to his shoulders Cole turned back around and cheered loudly.
