The evening air was thick with anticipation as Zhan busied himself in the kitchen. The faint scent of garlic and herbs filled the apartment as he prepared Yibo's favorite dish, hoping to make the night special. After the turbulent week of uncertainty and distance, Zhan felt it was time to take a leap of faith—time to express the emotions he had been hiding deep within.

He glanced at the clock, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Yibo often returned late from work, especially when he had meetings, but Zhan was determined to wait for him. As the minutes ticked by, Zhan set the dining table, meticulously arranging the plates and glasses. Soft music played in the background, and he lit a few candles, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Once the table was set, Zhan took a moment to gather his thoughts. He knew tonight could be a turning point in their relationship. The distance between them had weighed heavily on his heart, and he wanted to bridge that gap. He had spent so long in confusion, trying to sort out his feelings for both Yibo and Chen. But now, he was certain of one thing: he wanted to be with Yibo.

A small part of him was still afraid—afraid of rejection, afraid of vulnerability—but the stronger part knew he couldn’t let fear hold him back any longer. As he stirred the pasta sauce, memories of their time together flooded his mind: the laughter, the quiet moments, the way Yibo looked at him when he thought Zhan wasn’t paying attention. Zhan felt a warmth spread through him, and he smiled at the thought of finally telling Yibo how he felt.

Just as he was about to check the clock again, the front door clicked open. Zhan's heart raced as Yibo stepped inside, looking weary but sharp in his tailored suit. He paused, taking in the sight before him—dim lights, the aroma of dinner wafting through the air, and Zhan, standing there with a nervous but hopeful smile.

"Hey," Yibo said, a hint of surprise in his voice. "What’s all this?"

Zhan took a deep breath, gathering his courage. "I wanted to do something special for you. I know things have been a bit... complicated lately, and I thought maybe we could take a moment to just be us."

Yibo's expression softened, and he stepped further into the room, taking off his shoes. "You didn’t have to go through all this trouble, Zhan. You know I appreciate the little things."

"I know," Zhan replied, feeling a rush of warmth in his chest. "But I wanted to show you how much you mean to me. I’ve been thinking a lot lately… about us, about what I want."

They sat down at the table, and Zhan served the food, his heart racing with anticipation. The atmosphere was charged with unspoken tension. Zhan’s mind raced as he searched for the right words. He felt the weight of his feelings pressing against him, wanting to break free.

Finally, after a few moments of silence, Zhan looked up, meeting Yibo’s gaze. "Yibo, I need to tell you something. I know it’s been complicated with everything going on, and I’m sorry for pushing you away. I’ve been confused about my feelings, especially with Chen in the picture, but I realized something important."

Yibo's expression shifted slightly, his brow furrowing. "Zhan, you don’t have to—"

"No," Zhan interrupted, his voice firm but gentle. "I want to say this. I want to be honest with you. You’ve been there for me, even when I was lost. I tried to deny it, but I can’t anymore. I love you, Yibo. I truly do."

The room fell silent as Yibo processed Zhan's words. Zhan's heart raced with uncertainty, his breath caught in his throat. Did he see shock on Yibo’s face, or was it something else?

After what felt like an eternity, Yibo spoke, his voice low and steady. "Zhan, I—"

Before he could finish, Zhan continued, "I know things have been difficult, and I know I messed up by getting close to Chen, but that’s in the past. You’re the one I want to build a future with. You’re the one who makes me feel safe and loved."
