The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Zhan lay awake in bed, staring at the ceiling as his thoughts replayed the conversation with Yibo from the night before. He was conflicted—caught between his lingering attachment to Chen and the undeniable connection forming between him and Yibo.
With a soft sigh, Zhan sat up and ran a hand through his hair. His mind was still heavy with confusion, but he knew one thing for certain—he had to face this situation head-on, no more running away. As much as he wanted to avoid his feelings, Yibo deserved better. They deserved better.
A knock on the bedroom door startled him. Zhan looked up as Yibo walked in, already dressed in his usual sharp suit, his expression neutral.
"Good morning," Yibo said, his tone even, but Zhan could sense a distance between them—something subtle, but unmistakable.
"Morning," Zhan replied softly, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed. There was an awkward tension in the air, one that had become familiar over the past few days. It made Zhan’s heart ache, knowing that he had unintentionally built a wall between them.
Yibo checked his watch before glancing back at Zhan. "I have a meeting today, and I’ll be back late. If you need anything, just let me know."
Zhan nodded, feeling an invisible barrier standing between them. He wanted to say something—anything to break the ice—but the words were stuck in his throat.
Yibo turned to leave, but before he could step out of the room, Zhan’s voice stopped him.
"Yibo, wait."
Yibo paused, his back still turned to Zhan. His shoulders were tense, as if he were bracing himself for what Zhan might say next.
"I just... I just want you to know that I’m trying," Zhan said, his voice trembling slightly. "I know I’ve been all over the place, but I don’t want this... us, to be like this. I’m just... confused."
Yibo remained silent for a moment, then he slowly turned around to face Zhan. His eyes softened, and for the first time in days, Zhan saw a flicker of the man who had been there for him—the man who cared, even if he didn’t always show it.
"I know you’re confused," Yibo said quietly, stepping closer. "And I’m not rushing you. But I need you to understand... I’m not going to wait forever, Zhan."
Zhan’s chest tightened at Yibo’s words. He could sense the unspoken message behind them—Yibo was giving him space, but there was a limit to how much he could take before he broke. Zhan had to make a choice, or at least start working toward one.
"I know," Zhan whispered, feeling a lump form in his throat. "I’ll figure it out."
Yibo gave a small nod, though his eyes lingered on Zhan for a moment longer than necessary, as if he were searching for something—some sign that Zhan was closer to an answer.
Without another word, Yibo turned and left, leaving Zhan alone in the room with his thoughts.
