As the wedding date drew closer, Zhan found himself swept up in a whirlwind of preparations and family dynamics. The Xiao household was alive with excitement, but there was an undercurrent of tension that Zhan could not ignore.

One evening, as Zhan helped his mother arrange the final details for the wedding reception, he noticed his father, Xiao Huang, sitting quietly in the corner, his expression thoughtful. Zhan could sense a heaviness in the air, and he decided it was time to check in with his dad.

“Dad, is everything okay?” Zhan asked, walking over and taking a seat beside him.

Huang looked up, his eyes filled with a mixture of pride and concern. “I just can’t shake this feeling, Zhan. It’s a big step you’re taking. I want to make sure you’re truly happy.”

Zhan smiled gently, touched by his father’s worry. “I appreciate that, Dad. I am happy. Yibo and I are working hard to understand each other, and I believe this will be a good thing for both of us.”

“I know Yibo comes from a different background,” Huang said, his voice low. “I just hope you’re prepared for the challenges that may arise. It’s not always easy to blend two families.”

“I understand,” Zhan replied. “But I also believe we can overcome those challenges together. Yibo has shown me that he’s willing to put in the effort.”

Huang nodded, though the concern in his eyes lingered. “Just promise me you’ll communicate with him, especially when things get tough. I don’t want you to feel like you’re navigating this alone.”

“I promise, Dad,” Zhan assured him. “We’ll face everything together.”

With that reassurance, Huang finally smiled, a sense of relief washing over him. Zhan felt grateful for his father’s support, knowing that their family dynamics were not always easy, but they were built on love and understanding.

As the evening progressed, Zhan rejoined his mother, who was still busy with the decorations. “What’s next on the agenda, Mom?” he asked, feeling energized by his earlier conversation with his father.

“We need to finalize the guest list,” she replied, her tone filled with determination. “Let’s make sure everyone important is included.”

They pored over the list, checking names and relationships, and Zhan felt a swell of gratitude for the family he had. His mother was fiercely protective and loving, and he knew they would always have each other’s backs.

Later that week, Zhan found himself back at the venue, this time with Yibo. They had decided to do a walkthrough of the space to ensure everything was ready for the big day. As they stepped inside, Zhan felt a surge of emotions. It was beautiful, and he could already envision their friends and family celebrating their union.

Yibo looked around, his brow furrowed in concentration. “It really is lovely. I hope everything goes smoothly.”

“I’m sure it will,” Zhan replied, feeling optimistic. “We’ve worked hard to make this day special.”

They wandered through the hall, taking in the floral arrangements and the seating setup. Zhan was struck by how well they worked together, discussing ideas and adjusting plans effortlessly. It felt like a team effort, and that realization made him feel hopeful about their future.

As they approached the stage where they would exchange vows, Zhan paused. “This is where it’s all going to happen,” he said, a mixture of excitement and nervousness coursing through him.

Yibo turned to him, his expression serious. “Zhan, I want you to know how much this means to me. Marrying you is a big deal, and I’m grateful we’re taking this step together.”

Zhan felt warmth spread through him at Yibo’s words. “Me too. I can’t imagine going through this with anyone else. You make me feel understood.”

Their eyes locked for a moment, and Zhan felt a spark of connection that made his heart race. But before he could linger in that moment, Yibo spoke again, shifting the focus.

“Let’s check on the sound system and lighting next. We need to make sure everything is perfect,” he said, pulling Zhan back into the practicalities of the day.

As they moved through the venue, Zhan appreciated Yibo’s attention to detail. He was meticulous about ensuring that everything was in order, which reassured Zhan that they would be well-prepared for the big day.

After the walkthrough, they decided to grab a bite at a nearby café. As they settled at a table, Zhan noticed the way Yibo carried himself with an air of confidence, yet he still exuded a vulnerability that drew Zhan in.

“What are you thinking about?” Yibo asked, breaking Zhan out of his thoughts.

“I was just reflecting on how much has changed since we agreed to this marriage,” Zhan replied. “It’s strange to think how a few weeks ago, we barely knew each other, and now we’re practically planning a life together.”

“Yeah, it’s been a whirlwind,” Yibo admitted, his tone thoughtful. “But I feel like it’s been a good change. I didn’t expect to enjoy this process as much as I have.”

Zhan smiled, feeling a rush of warmth. “Me too. It’s nice to share this experience with someone who genuinely cares.”

They chatted about their favorite foods and hobbies, sharing laughs and stories over coffee and pastries. Zhan was surprised at how easily they connected, the awkwardness of their initial meetings fading away with each shared moment.

Just as they were finishing their meal, Yibo’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, his expression shifting slightly. “I need to take this. It’s my uncle.”

Zhan nodded, allowing Yibo to step outside to take the call. While waiting, Zhan couldn’t help but reflect on how quickly their relationship had developed. He felt a sense of hope that they were building something real, despite the pressures of their families and the wedding.

When Yibo returned, his demeanor seemed a bit different. “Everything okay?” Zhan asked, noticing the change.

“Yeah, just some last-minute details about the wedding,” Yibo replied, but Zhan could sense a hint of tension in his voice.

As they left the café, Zhan decided to address it. “Is something bothering you? You seem a bit off.”

Yibo hesitated before responding. “It’s just… my family can be overwhelming at times. They expect so much from me, especially with this wedding.”

Zhan felt a wave of empathy wash over him. “I understand. My family can be intense too, especially with all the expectations around this marriage.”

“Right? It’s like everyone has their own agenda,” Yibo said, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “I just want us to have a wedding that feels right for us.”

“Me too,” Zhan agreed. “Let’s make it our day, not just a show for everyone else. We can set the tone and decide what’s most important to us.”

Yibo’s expression softened, and he looked at Zhan with appreciation. “You’re right. We’ll focus on what makes us happy.”

As they walked through the streets, Zhan felt a renewed sense of determination. They would create a day that was true to them, despite the outside pressures.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the city, Zhan felt a surge of excitement for the future. Together, they could overcome the challenges that lay ahead, and they were ready to embrace whatever came their way.
