The weekend arrived with a mix of excitement and nerves swirling in Zhan’s stomach. He had agreed to meet Yibo for their outing, and for the first time in days, he felt a glimmer of hope. Perhaps this meeting would bridge the gap between them, helping Zhan transition from the heartache of his past to the promise of his future.

Zhan chose to meet at a popular amusement park on the outskirts of the city. It was a place filled with laughter, thrill rides, and an atmosphere that would make it easier for them to bond without the weight of their impending marriage looming over them. He arrived early, pacing near the entrance while anxiously checking his phone.

When Yibo finally arrived, he looked slightly out of place amidst the vibrant chaos of the park. He was dressed in a crisp white shirt and dark jeans, his usual composed demeanor slightly softened by the casual setting. As he approached, Zhan felt a flutter in his chest—this was their chance to connect as more than just future spouses.

“Hey,” Zhan greeted, offering a tentative smile.

“Hey,” Yibo replied, his expression neutral but his eyes betraying a hint of curiosity. “This place is… lively.”

Zhan chuckled. “Yeah, it can be overwhelming, but it’s fun! Come on, let’s go explore.”

As they wandered through the park, Zhan pointed out the various attractions—the towering roller coasters, vibrant game booths, and colorful food stalls. Yibo remained quiet, taking in the sights but not engaging much. Zhan felt a pang of disappointment; he had hoped Yibo would open up during their time together.

“Do you like amusement parks?” Zhan asked, trying to break the ice.

“I haven’t been to one in years,” Yibo admitted, glancing at a passing group of teenagers laughing together. “I guess I never really thought about it.”

“Really? You should try it! It’s a great way to let loose,” Zhan encouraged. “How about we start with that roller coaster over there?”

Yibo hesitated, his eyes narrowing slightly at the towering structure. “I’m not sure…”

“Oh, come on!” Zhan teased. “It’s just a ride! Besides, it’s more fun to scream your lungs out with someone else.”

After a moment of contemplation, Yibo cracked a small smile. “Okay, fine. Let’s do it.”

Zhan’s heart soared at Yibo’s willingness to step out of his comfort zone. They stood in line, surrounded by excited families and groups of friends, and Zhan felt the tension between them begin to dissolve. As they climbed into the roller coaster car, Zhan’s excitement bubbled over.

“This is going to be amazing!” he exclaimed, strapping himself in.

Yibo looked skeptical but managed a small laugh. “You’re way too excited for this.”

The ride took off, and Zhan’s laughter echoed as they hurtled through the twists and turns. He glanced at Yibo, whose face was a mixture of fear and exhilaration. For a brief moment, Zhan saw a glimpse of a different Yibo—one who could enjoy life beyond the rigid facade he usually wore.

When the ride ended, Zhan was breathless with laughter, while Yibo seemed to be processing the experience.

“That was… intense,” Yibo said, his voice a mix of awe and disbelief.

“Right? I told you it would be fun!” Zhan grinned, nudging him playfully. “See? We’re having a great time.”

As they made their way through the park, Zhan felt a warmth growing between them. They played games, won a giant stuffed bear, and even shared a cotton candy that melted in their mouths like childhood dreams. Zhan couldn’t remember the last time he had felt so carefree.
