Caleb got up from the couch and bid goodnight to Madi. Before leaving the room, he left a small kiss on my cheek.
My eyes widened and my skin tingled. What just happened?
Madi giggled below me. I looked down at her and picked her up.
"Time for bed baby girl." Madi rested her head on my shoulder and yawned. I smiled and we both went into my room.
Madi curled into me when we laid down and I rested my head on hers.
"Mommy" Madi said softly.
"Yes, dear?" I whispered.
"Where's daddy?" I froze and my eyes shot open.
"What?" I asked, making sure I heard her.
"Where's daddy?" She repeated. Oh no...
"I- I don't know baby." I said quietly.
"Does he not love me?" She asked, her voice small. I could feel my heart breaking and I fought to keep myself from breaking down.
"I..." I paused. "Yes baby. He loves you very much."
"Then where is he?" She repeated.
"What made you think of your dad baby?"
"Tyler has his daddy. Tyler talks about his daddy all the time." She said. "And you have a daddy. But I don't have a daddy."
That was all it took. I broke down, unable to control it. Tears flowed from my eyes and I silently cursed myself for bringing my daughter into a life without a father.
"Mommy, don't cry again." She said, not even looking at me. I chuckled a little and wiped my tears.
"Sorry, baby. Get some rest though, okay?" I felt her nod and cuddle into me more before we both fell asleep.

After checking on Tyler, I found the room Bella told me to sleep in. I snorted. Definitely used to be a girls room.
It reeked of perfume and hairspray.
I laid in the bed for a while, tossing and turning. I couldn't get Bella out of my head. Then I almost kissed her. What's wrong with me?
With a sigh I pulled myself up and left to look for a bathroom.
I heard muffled voices from Bella's room and froze when I heard what Madi had asked.
"Where's daddy?"
"I- I don't know baby." I heard Madi say.
"Does he not love me?" She asked. That poor little girl...
"I..." There was a pause. "Yes baby. He loves you very much."
"Then where is he?" She repeated. Poor Bella...
"What made you think of your dad baby?" Bella asked, her voice cracking at the end.
"Tyler has his daddy. Tyler talks about his daddy all the time." She said. "And you have a daddy. But I don't have a daddy."
I closed my eyes and continued to the bathroom. When I got there I stared at my reflection; a million thoughts racing through my mind.
Where is her dad? Why would he leave Madi and Bella? They don't deserve that. They deserve someone to take care of them.
Bella shouldn't have all the pressure of being a single mother on her. She had to have gone to college before having Madi so she's, what, 25? She has a degree then? So she must have a good job. She works a lot I've noticed.
She's such an amazing mom. She deserves more than this...
I left the bathroom and quietly peaked into Bella's room. Her and Madi were curled up together and it was probably the most adorable thing I had ever seen.
They looked so perfect.
I smiled and pulled out my phone quietly. I turned on the flash. Hoping not to wake them, I took a picture of the two.
As I was looking at the picture I heard one of them stir from the bed.
I walked over towards them and smiled. I bent down, placing a kiss on each of their heads before leaving the room.
How could someone leave those two?
