get ready.

A body fell to the ground across the battlefield.

Nico left his monster unattended, sprinting over with only the slightest limp due to his impaled leg slowing him.

"No, no, no, no." Nico sobbed.

The blond hair was sticky with blood.

The tan skin tarnished with dirt, bruises, and more blood.

His nails covered with blood.

His clothes covered with blood.

His face, covered with blood.

Not only other's blood, but his own.

Blood, blood, blood.

"Will, please, no," He choked desperately, trying to cover the gaping wound in his chest but switching to his leg, then his arms, then the hole in his head and back to his chest before repeating.

"Neeks..." A quiet voice whispered, crackling in the lungs louder than the words themselves.

"Yes, Will, that's it, you're okay... keep your eyes open—WILL!" He grasped at threads, begging his boyfriend to stay alive.

The flicker of his eyes looking at him was his only reassurance. The originally bright blues now dull and tinted red due to blood in them.

"Will... y-you cant die..." He knelt in front of the love of his life, his Will, not caring for the raging battle where others fought. He distantly sensed others surrounding them, keeping monsters at bay from attacking the two.

"Will, I love you, please." He whimpered, his face ghosting breath towards his lover. He did not speak. He did not blink. He did not breathe.

His eyes, no longer with the shimmer that they held a mere twelve hours ago, stared lifeless at the stormy skies overhead. His fingers were cold. The skin was turning pale and crinkled. His body was slack. Nico cursed the gods. He cursed Zeus, he cursed Aphrodite, he cursed Apollo, he curse Thantanos, and he cursed his own father. They all took his lover, his boyfriend, his will to continue, his Will.

He thought he could accept a death. He thought he did not have the denial phase of grief.

He did not care about the battle. He did not care how another camper fell similarly to Will at the other side of the field where monsters continued their rush. He did not care about how the clouds thundered dangerously in response to his heinous words, and the ground rumbled ominously.

He screamed. He screamed because he was angry. He screamed because he was sad. He screamed because he was heartbroken. He screamed because he was broken. He screamed because the one thing he looked forwards to in his day no longer existed.

The stench of blood, death, and dirt did not drown the stench of his hatred. His despise of life.

"You. Will. Die."

He felt every shadow and more begin surrounding him, a hurricane of debris and darkness enveloping his body until only a beastly figure remained. He left Will's side, he left everyone's side. There was nothing in his mind worth fighting for.

He was past repair. His mother. His sister. His other sister, two of his closest friends, Reyna and Jason. Dead.

And now, his true will to live. Dead.

It was cold and cruel. Too sudden. He was fighting—then he was dead.

With his whirling tornado, he shot it at the first figure he saw moving. A fury.

It was demolished immediately, torn to shreds and ashes before the ground opened, jagged spikes of stone and dirt bursting in its place where a being once stood. Dead

Who was next?

An empousa. Gripped by the claws of death, torn from the inside out as her guts spilled onto her fallen, blood squirting from his eyes as she was squeezed from the neck up slowly. Dead.

Next.

Frank.

Blood, blood, blood.

A giant.

An Apollo camper.

Piper.

A small rodent.

Percy Jackson.

Blood, blood, blood.

His lover was dead.

Blood, blood, and blood.

Everyone, dead.

Blood, more blood.

All life. dead.

Blood.

After the final human in New York ceased their breath, he at last took his.
