Chapter 14: Amren

The moon was long since risen by the time Amren arrived back in Summer; the flight had taken much longer than she had thought. Combines with rest breaks in which she vomited up her guts, it took the rest of the day. Robin had been very accommodating with her symptoms, but that was to be expected; his mates job was dealing with sick people. 

Robin dropped her right onto the balcony of Varians' gorgeous room at the highest point of the castle, but he wasn't back yet, despite the hour. After thanking the Peregryn, she collapsed onto the bed, and fell asleep immediately.

Amren woke in the middle of the night to blinding moonlight, and the sounds of someone who was trying to be quiet as the walked through a door.

"Varian?" Her voice was stifled with sleep and exhaustion. "That you?"

He hummed in confirmation, slowly making his way over. 

"Why are you back so late? It's past midnight."

He sighed, kneeling down beside her and flopping his head onto the mattress. "Please tell me your day was a whole lot better than mine." He was holding back tears; she could hear it in his muffled voice.

"I hate to disappoint, but today couldn't have gone worse." 

Varian groaned, reaching a hand out for hers. "I'm sorry, gorgeous. I take it your family didn't take the news well?

Amren shook her head, dragging herself over to rest her forehead on his. "Are you alright?"

He gave a weak smile. "Not at all." He wiped at a single tear. "I can't do this, Amren, I'm too young to be High Lord, and I'm too young to be a father, and I'm too young to do both at the same time-"

"But I'm not, Var, I'm not, and you don't have to do this without me, remember? Because I am your mate, and I love you very, very much." She gave a hard swallow.  "I'm scared too, don't let anything fool you." Amren's own tears landed on the donna, mixing with her mates. "Come to bed. We can pretend nothing is different."

"Is it really that easy?" His voice broke with tears like a glass vase.

"I've had millennia of pretending everything is okay." She hesitated for a moment. "But it will only hurt more when you wake up."

Varian nodded slowly. "I just don't know what to do."

"I know." Amrens breath caught in her throat. "But I know I love you, and I'll do anything for you."

"You need sleep. It's past midnight, sweetheart."

He sighed, scrubbing his face. "Kay." 

Amren rolled back, closing her eyes. A moment later, the mattress shifted and two strong arms wrapped around her middle. Varians deep breath brushed the shell of her ear as he relaxed into her, pulling her close.

"I love you, Amren."

She smiled softly. "I love you too, Varian."

I know its short and took me forever to upload, but I opened dress to impress and I couldnt turn it off. (my username is henrycavilsbigshlon if you wanna hmu) ill try to be more consistent. 

I am also working on an original work, which is taking up alot of my time. But im still here, dont worry! Im also uploading 3 other stories, ts x couples, In the morning light, and a new one, Where  the red wind blows, which is a direct sequel to A Court of Flame and Shadow, told solely from Eris pov.
