The core plot follows Johnny Lawrence, a down-and-out ex-Karate kid, who decides to reopen the famous Cobra Kai dojo. With the help of his former rival and current business partner Daniel LaRusso, they must face off against their own personal demons while teaching the sport of karate to a new generation of students. Along the way, Johnny and Daniel find themselves on opposite sides once again, as they compete for the hearts and minds of their young students and the future of the sport.
In this season, Ben Jones is a young teen who is unsure about his place in the world. He was once part of Cobra Kai, the infamous karate dojo led by Terry Silver, but left after becoming disillusioned with the group's methods. Ben is now trying to find his way and figure out what he wants to do in life. Along the way, he discovers Miyagi-Do and starts to explore a new perspective on the sport of karate. His journey in Season 1 will be one of self-discovery as he learns to embrace his own identity and values as a chosen One and the starboy of the valley. His cousins (Steph Silver and Ralph Jones) and his friends (Amara and Claire Bryce) from his uncle Silver in a relationship became strained the same as Ben's family as well.
Ben's connection with his old childhood friend, Samantha LaRusso. He and Sam have a complicated history, as they were friends when they were young, but eventually, their paths diverged when Ben joined Cobra Kai as a teenager from the past and Sam began training at Miyagi-Do when she and Ben were kids. Their friendship becomes a complex and nuanced element of their individual journeys.
