The air crackled with anticipation. For Adam, Extermination Day was the highlight of the year. It wasn't just a day of battle—it was the day when his warriors marched, his golden wings shining bright as the sun, and the legions of Hell trembled before the might of the heavens.
Adam stood at the front of his ranks, his towering figure a beacon of power. His short, fluffy brunette hair swayed in the wind, and his golden wings shimmered in the eternal twilight of the battlefield. Today, he was a force of nature, ready to lead his army down to the depths of Hell for another blood-soaked purge.
Lute, his fierce and loyal lieutenant, stood by his side. At her full height—now matured and more commanding than ever—she was the perfect match for Adam's intensity. Her dark hair, now trimmed and neatly kept, contrasted with her radiant wings, which flickered in the fiery glow of the hellish landscape below. She had her sword ready, her expression one of unwavering resolve.
"You ready for this, boss?" Lute asked, her voice confident and sharp. Her eyes sparkled with excitement beneath the cool, calculated mask she wore.
Adam grinned, his teeth flashing as he raised his sword, the weapon gleaming with divine light. "You know it. Today's going to be a bloodbath, and I love it."
The ground beneath them rumbled, and the gates to Hell loomed ahead. They had been sealed for centuries, but today, on this sacred day, they would be opened once again. The air was thick with the stench of sulfur and the bitter cries of damned souls trapped in the fiery abyss.
Behind Adam and Lute, the army of warrior angels—his fiercest, strongest legion—lined up, wings spread wide, weapons ready. These were not the gentle protectors of the divine realm; these were celestial warriors forged for battle. They had the same fiery passion for destruction, the same thirst for vengeance. On Extermination Day, they were unstoppable.
"Time to go to work," Adam said with a wicked grin. His golden wings unfurled to their full glory as he took a single, powerful step toward the gate. Lute and the rest of his army followed, ready to descend upon Hell and unleash their wrath.
As the gate began to groan open, revealing the fiery landscape below, Adam's heart raced with excitement. This was where he thrived. He was made for this. And as they descended into the inferno, the demonic creatures of Hell scattered in fear, knowing full well the destruction that was about to be wrought.
The first wave of sinners met the angels head-on, clawing and screeching as they tried to defend themselves. But Adam and his warriors were relentless, cutting through them with ease, each swing of their swords a precise and deadly strike. Lute was by his side, leading her own squadron, cutting down demons with ruthless efficiency.
Adam's laughter echoed over the battlefield. "I love this! It's always so much fun when they try to fight back!"
Lute flashed him a grin as she decapitated a particularly large demon with a swift, fluid motion. "They never learn, do they?"
The day unfolded in a torrent of destruction. Adam and his army slashed their way through Hell, leaving nothing but chaos and the charred remains of the damned. Sinners screamed in agony as they were struck down, their cries mixing with the victorious cheers of the warrior angels. Blood, fire, and divine light painted the landscape.
And then, as Adam stormed through a narrow alley of the infernal city, sword in hand, something caught his eye. It was a faint sound, a quiet sobbing—a small, pitiful whimper that didn't quite belong in the chaos around him.
He turned toward the sound, his golden wings flashing as he moved cautiously through the smoke and fire. In the darkened corner of the alley, he saw her—a small child demon, no older than a few centuries, curled up against the wall. Her wings were barely visible, folded tight against her back. She was trembling, her wide, terrified eyes locked onto Adam as she cowered from the battle that raged around her.
Adam paused, his sword still raised, ready to strike. But as he looked at her, his heart clenched. She was scared—no, she was petrified, shaking like a leaf in the wind, eyes filled with fear and desperation. She wasn't the fierce, battle-hardened demon he was used to. She was just a kid.
The sight gave him pause. His mind screamed at him—this was Extermination Day! She was a demon. She didn't deserve mercy. But as hard as he tried, he couldn't bring himself to swing his blade. This wasn't like any fight he'd been in before. This was... different.
The little demon let out a choked sob, and Adam's sword wavered in his hand. He didn't lower it, but something in his gut told him to stop. He stared down at the child, and for the first time, doubt crept into his thoughts.
"You... You're not going to kill me?" the demon girl whispered, her voice trembling.
Adam looked at her, his breath heavy, as he fought the swirling emotions inside. His duty. His orders. The bloodshed. Everything he'd always believed. And yet... he couldn't do it. The child was looking up at him with wide, scared eyes, waiting for the inevitable end. And he wasn't ready to deal the final blow.
He sighed, his hand tightening around the hilt of his sword before finally letting it fall to his side. He could feel the weight of the decision bearing down on him, but he couldn't bring himself to harm her.
"No," Adam said quietly, his voice softer than it had ever been. "I'm not going to kill you."
The girl's eyes filled with confusion, her fear slowly giving way to a glimmer of hope. "Why? I'm just... I'm just a demon. I'm supposed to die today, right? That's... that's what happens."
Adam knelt down in front of her, his golden wings folding carefully behind him as he looked her in the eye. "Not today. You're not going to die today. You're going to hide. You're going to run, and you're going to live."
"But... but they'll find me," she stammered. "The others... they won't let me escape."
"They don't need to know," Adam said, his voice more firm now. "I'll make sure you're safe, but you need to go. Hide. Don't come back here, and you'll be alright."
The girl nodded slowly, unsure, but she could see the sincerity in Adam's eyes. She hesitated, staring at him for a moment longer before she slowly stood up, her small wings flickering nervously.
Adam watched her disappear into the shadows, her silhouette vanishing into the thick smoke of Hell's burning streets. His heart still raced, adrenaline pumping, but there was a weight in his chest—an unfamiliar feeling.
Lute approached, having noticed his absence. "Sir, everything okay?" she asked, her gaze flickering to the empty alleyway.
Adam gave a small nod, though his expression was darker than usual. "Yeah. Let's move on."
He turned away, his golden wings catching the light once more as he rejoined the battle, but the memory of that child demon lingered in his mind. He'd spared her life. It wasn't the typical Extermination Day. But maybe, just maybe, there was more to it than he'd ever realized.
