Jungkook's voice snapped her back to reality, and she turned to the screens, her heart racing as red warning lights blared overhead.
“Multiple energy fluctuations detected! The core is still unstable!” Jungkook shouted, his expression shifting from relief to concern in an instant.
“What does that mean?” Y/n asked, panic creeping into her voice as she grasped the console for stability.
“It means the core is trying to overload. We need to contain the energy before it blows,” Jungkook replied urgently, already scanning the room for options.
Y/n's mind raced. “What can we do?”
“There are emergency shutdown protocols. If we can access the main terminal, we might be able to stabilize it,” he explained, his fingers moving rapidly across the console. “But we have to be quick!”
“Lead the way!” Y/n urged, falling into step beside him as they navigated through the room. The air crackled around them, and she could feel the pulse of energy intensifying, each beat sending vibrations through her body.
They reached a larger terminal at the far side of the room, its interface more complex than the previous one. A massive screen displayed various readouts and graphs, all fluctuating wildly.
“Can you override it?” Y/n asked, her voice steadying as she focused on the task at hand.
“I’ll need access to the mainframe. It’ll take a moment, but I can do it,” Jungkook said, already typing commands. “Keep an eye out for any signs of malfunction or security measures. If anything goes wrong, we might trigger an automated defense system.”
Y/n nodded, scanning the room. The lights flickered, casting eerie shadows as she felt the energy around them build to a dangerous level. “I’ll alert you if I see anything.”
As Jungkook worked, Y/n could feel the pressure mounting in her chest. She couldn’t shake the feeling that they were running out of time. The flashing alerts on the screen seemed to taunt them, counting down to an unknown disaster.
Suddenly, the ground beneath them trembled, and a deafening alarm blared through the facility. “Warning! Core overload imminent!”
“Jungkook!” Y/n shouted, her heart racing as she watched the screen flash red.
“I’m almost there! Just a few more seconds!” Jungkook’s voice was resolute, but she could see the tension in his features as he continued to type furiously.
Y/n could feel a shift in the energy around them, a low rumble echoing through the walls. “We don’t have much time!”
With a final keystroke, Jungkook's eyes widened as the terminal responded. “I’m initiating the shutdown sequence now! Y/n, I need you to stabilize the core while I run the diagnostics!”
“Got it!” she replied, rushing to the controls. The consoles were illuminated with a chaotic array of data, and she focused on maintaining the stability of the core.
“Redirect the energy flow to the auxiliary systems,” Jungkook instructed. “That should relieve some of the pressure.”
Y/n followed his commands, her fingers flying across the console as she worked to stabilize the core’s energy. “I’m doing it! But the fluctuations are too high!”
“Just a little more! We can do this!” Jungkook encouraged, his voice steady despite the chaos surrounding them.
The core began to stabilize under her commands, the violent energy shifting into a more controlled flow. Y/n felt a surge of relief, but it was short-lived as the alarms continued to blare, and the room shook violently once more.
