The afternoon sun bathes the high school campus in a warm golden glow, casting long shadows across the ground. Outside the building, the grassy lawn stretches out, dotted with many students relaxing on benches or sprawling out on the grass talking with each other. By the walkway, the trees tremble under the gentle breeze, rusting and soothing the ear with calmness.

Although the view out there, in the classroom Y/N seems to care less. While everyone else focuses on the teacher, he sits back, staring out the window with a bored expression, lost in daydreams.

To him, life had become a never ending loop, like a simulation where each day dawned with the same gray daze. The routine droned on, an unchanging cycle of mundane tasks. Awoke to the same sounds, the same faces, all blending together in a haze of familiarity. Same as the world, it hasn't really changed as its still packed with people who have bad intentions. Despite our fervent wishes for a brighter tomorrow, it feels like humanity was trapped in a loop. It's almost laughable, really.

Spaced out in his daydreams. Suddenly, something caught his eye. A black book, shiny and sleek is falling from the sky, almost like it is waiting for him to notice.

"A book?" Y/N mumbled, his voice a mix of curiosity and confusion. He furrows his brow, tilting his head slightly. He plans to check the spot where it landed once school was over. The book had found him for a reason after all.

Time seemed to slip away, and as he had planned, he goes to the spot where the book had landed. It doesn't take long for him to find it, the black cover stands out against the bright colors of the surroundings. He picks it up and examines it closely. 'Death note' he thinks, flipping to the next page. The words catch his eye.

'Any human whose name is written in this book shall die.'

Y/N looks at the book for a sec, then scoffs "What a load of nonsense." Thinking it is likely just a prank pulled by some students or a silly chain letter..

"But what's the harm in checking? I'm just curious to see if it really does work.." Y/N huffs as he picks up the book and decides to take it home. Oh if only he knows, curiosity often leads to unexpected twists.

Sitting in his room, Y/N stares at the peculiar book, reading all the rules inside. Why did he even bother picking it up? It feels like a total waste of time he thinks. Yet, what else does he have to do? The only reason he's even looking at the book is that he's just plain bored.

"I'd be crazy to think this is real.." he sighs. But since he already brought it home, why not see what happens? With his chin resting on his palm, he glances at the television, where a LIVE news broadcast covers a man who is kidnapping children as hostages. At this stage, Y/N is used to living in a society like this.

Looking back at the Death Note, his earlier curiosity resurfaces. He grabs a pen from his desk and begins to write the kidnapper's name. His gaze remains fixed on the screen, intent on memorizing the kidnapper's features while his hand works to inscribe the name. Having finished, Y/N shifts his attention to the clock hanging on the wall. "In 40 seconds, that man will supposedly die of a heart attack, based on the rules..." he notes. He doesn't truly expect the kidnapper to meet his end, he was just curious to see if the book has any real ability.

Suddenly, the news reporter breaks in with an urgent update "The kidnapper has collapsed from a heart attack during negotiations with the police! They are currently rescuing the children! It's a relief to know they are in safe hands now!" Y/N stares at the TV in disbelief, completely taken aback. He is aware of ability users in Yokohama, but a book capable of killing just by writing names? Some real shit right there.

'What the fuck? Is this actually happening?' is the only thought racing through his mind as he looks back at the Death Note in utter shock. What is going on? Are these events real? Countless questions flood his mind, but none of them find answers.

"Y/N sweetie! Aren't you supposed to have extra classes tonight? It's getting late, you should get going!" Y/N snaps back to reality at the sound of his mom's voice from downstairs. He had completely lost track of time due to everything that happened earlier. The questions still race in his mind, 'What if it's actually real? Maybe testing it one more time will help me find my answers' he thinks, his face tense with focus as he put the Death Note in his bag, bringing it with him.

"Yes mom! I'll get going now."

By the time Y/N arrives home, it's already 9 PM. "I'm back, Mom." he says, spotting her at the front door with a kind smile. "Welcome back, Y/N. Can I see your national examination results?" she asks in a soft voice. "Oh, that.." Y/N searches through his bag, pulling out the results and giving them to his mom, his expression neutral.

"First place again! Good job, sweetie!"

"Thanks, Mom. I'll head to my room to reread my lessons. Please don't interrupt me."

"Of course, of course" she replies.

As he shuts his bedroom door, Y/N hears his mom call out "Y/N, what would you like as a reward? You can tell me!" What a loving mother she is. "Ah, I don't want anything, Mom" he says, closing the door behind him. Inside, his smile shifts to something darker. He reaches for his bag, pulling out the Death Note and flipping it open to reveal countless names scrawled across the pages, every paragraph filled with names, no blank spots remaining.

"Because I already have what I desire."

He lies on his bed, both hands gripping the book. He even took the time to organize the criminals' names by the severity of their crimes. To him, the world is corrupt, and those who perpetuate that corruption deserve death. Someone must take a stand, so why not him? It's worth the sacrifice.

Is there anyone else who would dare to eliminate the scum of society? The answer is obvious. NO ONE.

But he can. In fact, He is the only one who can. He will forge a new world free from injustice, filled only with those he deems honest and kind, ruling over it as its God.

Y/N's smile widens in satisfaction as he takes in his accomplishments. This is the destiny that had been bestowed upon him, after all.

The destiny he was meant to fulfill.
