'Ah Myle, you little monster. Can't you really give me one Saturday to sleep in?'. It was probably Myle's favourite moment of the day, as soon as she wakes up in the mornings in Viv's bed and sees that Viv is still sleeping, she slowly sniffs Viv's feet and then runs to her face to lick all over her face, ending with her tongue in Viv's ears.
She picked up the puppy and placed her on her belly, where the puppy lay down very calmly and closed her eyes again. 'Ey you, what are you thinking? First wake up mommy and then go back to sleep? Oh God, what was I thinking when I bought you?'. Viv lay down completely flat on her back again and a deep sigh left her mouth. Her hands found their place on the back of her puppy and together they fell asleep for a while.
Vivianne Miedema, a 28-year-old striker for Manchester City and the Dutch national team, the star of women's football, the one who changed women's football. She hasn't been active in football for very long, because she considered her studies more important. But after studying medicine for two years and obtaining her diploma as a midwife to continue her passion for babies, she thought it was time to perhaps pick up that football career what she started with.
She loved everything about football. As a little girl she had already started playing football at her former club Hoogeveen. Every Saturday her parents and her grandfather stood on the sidelines to cheer on both her and her brother. At a young age she was scouted by several coaches from professional clubs, but she decided to remain loyal to Hoogeveen. Between her secondary school year and her medical studies, she played football in England for Arsenal for a year, to see after quite a few years what she could achieve with her talent abroad.
But something was missing, she didn't want football to take over her entire life. She wanted to start a social career in addition to her professional career, so she quit Arsenal. It had been a difficult step. Lisa, her ex-girlfriend, and Viv had put an end to their relationship, with Viv moving to Manchester. But she knew that it was better, that she had to take this step in order to provide for her happiness. And besides, she was still so incredibly young.
But studying medicine in Manchester wasn't quite right either. After two years of studying, she discovered that her passion for babies wasn't getting enough attention in her studies, so she quit. A gap year in which she travelled, dated occasionally, but nothing came of it. After that gap year, she knew for sure, I'm going to study midwifery.
They were perhaps the four best years of her life, she really liked everything, the theory, the practice, the internship, helping with a real birth, she loved it. It was no wonder that she eventually graduated cum laude. But... That social career was guaranteed and somewhere she also missed football a bit. So with a diploma in her pocket, she decided to focus more on her professional career, she started playing football again and she even signed a contract with Manchester City and is available for the Dutch team, for whom she plays the stars from the sky.
And perhaps the most beautiful highlight of the past time, her passion for children has partly come true. Without a partner and being a lesbian, having children is of course not easy, but with the arrival of her fur baby, she was over the moon. So that her fur baby had woken her up and then fallen asleep on top of her again, she couldn't be angry about for a second.
And not only that, it wasn't just a puppy she bought. It was a presence she so sorely missed in a partner. It was someone to lay next to her in bed, the thing she so sorely missed in a partner. Someone she could cuddle with whenever she wanted. Someone she could go outside with. It was what she needed, now that she was 28 and still didn't have a partner.
It was a unique weekend, not a matchday for once, a weekend in which she would actually do absolutely nothing, except for some cleaning and lots of cuddling with Myle, who seemed to be slowly waking up, clearly enjoying the fact that she hadn't been taken to daycare by Viv at this late hour, as normally happens during matchdays. 'So come on you, time to have breakfast'. She picked up the puppy and placed her down on the floor, while she slowly got herself ready for the day, with Myle jumping around her.
