Celian lay in his vast, opulent bed, staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. The silky sheets felt suffocating tonight, no amount of turning or adjusting could calm his restless heart.

He glanced down at the engagement ring on his finger, a beautiful, rare gem that sparkled even in the dim light. but lately, it felt more like a chain. Slowly, he removed the ring and placed it in the drawer by his bedside.

The silence of his room pressed down on him, thick and stifling. He needed air. Celian rose and made his way to the balcony, the cool night breeze welcoming him.

Leaning on the railing, he stared out at the dark expanse of the royal gardens. The bushes and trees swayed gently under the moonlight.

His eyes fell on a flash of red among the greenery, and for a moment, his heart leapt, an unexplainable excitement rushing through him.

But just as quickly, disappointment settled in when he realized it was only a bird, its feathers reflecting the moonlight. He furrowed his brows.

Disappointment?

Why… who am I hoping for ?

From childhood, Celian had been trained to accept his destiny—a political marriage. He had never entertained the idea of love or attraction toward other alphas. It was pointless. His marriage to Alex, the prime minister's son, had been arranged for years. Even though Alex didn’t love him, Celian had at least hoped for peaceful cohabitation. That hope shattered the day he saw Alex's gaze. The tenderness and affection in his eyes were not for Celian, but for the omega Elias.

The realization burned.

That was, until he saw the way Alex looked at him—Elias. That tenderness in Alex’s eyes, the softness and love he reserved only for the commoner omega. It was a look Celian had never received, a look that made his stomach churn with jealousy.

Elias, he thought bitterly. The mere commoner who somehow had everything he lacked. Elias was kind, hardworking, and pure—qualities Celian despised because they reminded him of what he could never be. Every time he saw Elias, a knot tightened in his chest, fear and jealousy intertwining, threatening to unravel his composure. It felt like his dignity was being stepped on.

His thoughts drifted.

Since the first time he saw … Astraea. That female alpha, with those fiery red eyes and that fearless attitude. She made him feel something he had never expected, something he shouldn’t feel. He remembered how she had shielded him from Alex’s wrath. Her strong, unwavering stance between him and danger. For the first time in a long time, he had felt… safe. A sense of comfort that unsettled him.

He sighed, rubbing his temple.

How am I any different from Alex? he thought, his gaze falling to the ground. We’re both attracted to someone we shouldn’t be.

"It's all Astraea's fault," he muttered, his frustration bubbling to the surface.

"That leech, pervert, stalker, stupid feral alpha!"

"

Why do you always scold me?"

A sudden voice from above startled him.

Celian jumped in shock,  only to see Astraea descending gracefully from the roof, landing effortlessly on his balcony. His eyes widened in disbelief, his heart nearly leaping out of his chest.
