“Nightwing-Schmightwing." She mumbled, “I fuckin’ hate your face." She stood at the foot of the bed with her hands on her hips, “just come in here thinkin’ you're the shit." She glared sadistically, “now look at you."
Crudely ties knots holding his arms above his head. He smiles softly, “Harley, let me out." He doesn't need help, he could just break them…he should just break them.
"No Mr.Bigshot.” she walked around the bed cautiously, eyes rolling across his masked face. "Wonder what you look like under that mask,” his smile slowly falls. A frown forms. She's just looking for something to stick to.
Something that'll make her feel alive–Joker’s dead. Ivy’s closer to death than she ever was before. Gotham’s changing…she just wanted something that wouldn't ever change.
Her finger nail pokes below his right eye, "Puddin' tried to kill me when I took off Bat's mask.” She frowns, her eyes slick over. Scars of the Joker's anger sit on her powered cheeks. "Nightbutt. Robin. You–you’re not going to try to kill me or anyth—I did tie you up."
She sat down on the edge of the bed and fell back, laying the back of her head on his stomach. "You could still let me free…Batman’s–I’ll try something with Batman.”
"Batman’s Bruce Wayne…if you didn't know," she looked at him, putting her ear on his chest to hear his slow heartbeat. “But you probably already knew that…anyways. We finally had him all tied up right,” she closed her eyes as memories flicked through her eyes.
"Thinking that Puddin' wanted me to take off the mask…I took it off. Boy, he was really ang—"
“Harley, let me go." He says again.
She shook her head with her head still on his stomach. “You're just tryna trick me. ‘m not gonna fall for it again." She sits up and looks at him, “you're my prisoner now." She shuffled before fully getting on the bed.
She lays down on his chest and rests her chin on his collar bone. "You’re gonna be with me forever.” Six years in Jump City, a few months back in Gotham…he’s imprisoned by a psychotic lady afraid of things changing.
Six years his senior seemed like a girl his age–Nightwing’s no better than the man who raised him. "No Batman. Joker. Pam…just me and you.” She closed her eyes and laid her cheek on his chest. "I'll make you somethin’ to eat in an hour.” She mumbled.
"Harley, I’m going to need you to let me go…I won't try a—"
“Stop-stop lyin’. Bruce said that and then sent me to jail. Puddin’ tried to kill me…I'm not gonna fall for it again." Richard sighed, she shifted and sat up. “Just be happy that you're still alive." Harley hadn't killed in three years–he didn't fear for his life. It's hard when the ropes are really loose.
“I could kill you right now," she leaned down, grasping his cheeks with her hands. “You'll be safe here." Gotham burns a few miles from here. "I’m gonna protect y–”
"Let me protect you,” her hands slide up. "Harley, I'll do everything to keep you safe. But I can't do that locked up.” Her fingers slide below the mask and release the seal.
She frowned, "I don't want you to protect me…you suck really bad at doing that.” And then she lets the mask go, not peeking at the face hiding beneath it. “Just let me protect you." Her nose rubs his, “okay–you’re gonna be safe."
“What if I won't?" He retorted lightly, “what if Batman comes through that door and sees me tied up?" She frowns, he pressures, “you can let me go. I'll vouch for you, get you out of the city, find you somewhere nice. Somewhere away from all of thi—"
“No!" She smacked the pillow beneath his head, “no. You're going to stay with me—"
“Then I'll stay with you, but they're hunting down every villain in this city…you're just going to die…I'll go with you. Wherever you want." She sneered, still angry, he sighed.
“Why don't you want to stay with me? W—"
“I do." But Barbara died to her former lover. Bruce is the thinking straight. Villains are dying…and through all that…he wants to get her away from.it all…he isn't a good hero. But he's still a hero. “I want to stay with you," she leaned down towards him unconvinced.
“But you want to leave," her hands took a hold of the edges of his mask. “You wanna go out there and leave me—what if I took this off? What then huh, you're gonna try to kill me too? Or lie and send me to jail?"
“I love you–”
"No you don't.”
He wants the choice to be hers, "yes I do.” If she takes the hold off, she will. If she doesn't, she just won't…and then cold air seeps beneath the mask as dark blue eyes stare up at black ones. "I still love you.” She blinked.
"I don't even know who you—"
“My name’s Richard Grayson, Bruce Wayne’s adopted son." And then she sat up confused, mask in her hands as her eyes stared at the man below her. “And I love you Harleen Quinzel."
Her eyes burn—then hands suddenly grasp her waist. Her eyes shot open wide as she moves to get up…he sits up. Hands on her waist. “I love you." She tried to push off—unt he grabbed her wrists. "I'm not lying to you, I love you.”
"No you do–!” Her lips are muffled by his own. Her hands moved behind his neck, arms hugging as he kissed her. She pulls into him. Teeth hitting. She doesn't care. Salty mascara tears seeped between their lips.
She doesn't care, "I love you,” she hiccuped. "Don’t leave me please.” She kissed him again, crying as he hugged her back with one arm. His other hand fiddled with his responder before finally turning it off.
“We're going to have to run," he said to the lady crying in his neck. “Batman will be here in a few hours."
“Don't go." She kissed him again, rougher. Tongue forcing its unclean way into his mouth. Her body moves. Her hands explore…she’s begging...he's exploding inside of her. "Don't go.”
…..
Too Much?
…..
“Let's go get somethin’ sweet to eat," she takes refuge in his chair and hugs and kisses his neck. “Thinkin’ about ice cream and cookies."
…
Let's leave this on a sweeter note.
…
Or as sweet as the last chapter could be.
…
“Your Dad loves you," she said to the young boy in her arms crying to see his dad again. Harley smiled softly, looking out the window of the tallest skyscraper in a rebuilt Gotham. “Trust me, he'll never leave us."
Like a miracle—the elevator opens to Richard Quinzel stepping in. "Guess who's back.”
