As we approached, we were surprised to see a boy amidst the forest. He looked about ten years old, his clothes dirt-streaked, his face smudged with dust, leaving only a pair of bright eyes visible. Upon hearing our footsteps, he turned to us, glaring fiercely.

Lanxius stepped forward, asking, "Who are you, and why are you here in this forest?"

The boy gave us a once-over, completely ignoring Lanxius's question, his gaze filled with wariness. As Lanxius reached out to steady him, the boy dodged his arm, muttering an incantation, casting a spell—of all things, dark magic!

A cloud of dark mist shot toward Lanxius, who parried it with his sword, though the scabbard was quickly corroded by the black fog. Realizing the threat, Lanxius took extra care not to let the mist touch him, and before long, it dissipated.

With a stern expression, Lanxius pointed his sword at the boy, his voice harsher than ever. "Tell me, who are you, and how do you know dark magic?"

The boy stared defiantly at the sword, saying nothing. His lips moved to cast another spell, intending to launch another attack. Watching the situation escalate, I couldn't help but feel frustrated. How had things turned so tense so quickly?

Elod, beside me, frowned and sighed softly.

"What's wrong?" I asked curiously.

"The deeper we went, the more uneasy I felt," Elod mused. "Turns out, it's this boy using dark magic. Though his skills are immature, from what I saw, he's likely used it to attack many before. Moreover, the magic he wields is necromancy—a far more dangerous type. Lanxius is genuinely furious now."

Necromancy? I pondered for a moment before recalling that dark magic was forbidden on the continent, detested by all, especially necromancers, who used the corpses of humans or beasts as their weapons. Their formidable power made them targets of suppression, as using the dead for attacks was abhorrent to people. Necromancers were seen as a taboo, and killing one would earn a bounty from any magic guild.
