"Is this your goal?" I glanced at Dana, his body still weak. "Is it because the contract wasn't voluntary that your power is insufficient?"
"I'd like to live longer... to stay with you, after all!" Sannason replied, his usual frivolous demeanor returning.
"And if my answer is no, what will you do?" I asked, lowering my head.
"I would rather you didn't make such a choice," Sannason said coldly, glaring at me. "But if you insist, I'll kill this little crawler by your side!"
Damn it! I cursed inwardly. He knew I wouldn't abandon Dana and still said such a thing—did he really think I'd agree? I hate being threatened more than anything in my life. Seems he truly deserves to die!
I looked down at Dana and softly asked, "Are you afraid of death?"
"Liza," Dana paused, "as long as I'm with you, I'm not afraid."
"Good." I patted his head, raising an eyebrow at Sannason. "He's not afraid."
Sannason's sinister gaze locked onto me. "So you've refused, have you?" He approached slowly, an oppressive aura radiating from him, reaching out to grab Dana. Dana didn't struggle at all, and seeing Sannason's dark eyes, I knew he meant to kill. Just as he moved, I calmly whispered, "Fire Dance Over the Sky!"
Balls of fire flew toward Sannason, who scrambled back in alarm, his green barrier flickering to life—glaring against the darkness. My magic hadn't fully recovered, and casting this intermediate spell drained what little strength I had. Poor me—I hadn't had a full meal in days. =.=|||
"You're a magician!" Sannason exclaimed, astonished. "I underestimated you."
I felt frustrated. I would rather you kept underestimating me—I've barely got enough strength left to fight.
"Well, you certainly make things more interesting," Sannason said with a grin, his sharp voice grating on my ears.
"Is that so?" I muttered to myself. How unlucky can I be? Where are Lancelus and the others? If they don't come soon, I won't hold out.
"So, you do care about this guy, huh?" Sannason moved closer again. Not far away, Dana lay unconscious. I quickly used a teleportation spell to move Dana to safety.
Smiling mockingly at Sannason, I said, "He's a thousand times better than you."
"I don't have time to waste on you. What other tricks do you have, so-called magician?" His steps approached confidently—likely relying on the artifact he possessed. That meant I'd have to keep stalling. I reached into my storage ring and took out 'Antisno's Wrath.' Fortunately, when Sannason imprisoned me, he hadn't taken away my belongings. Otherwise, I'd truly be out of options.
