Ethan's POV
The morning light crept into the room, spilling soft rays across the floor. I stood in the kitchen, the scent of pancakes wafting through the air, mingling with the sweet aroma of fresh strawberries I had sliced just moments before. It was Monday, and that meant another week of school for both of us. I felt a sense of excitement as I prepared breakfast, eager to see Ashlynn's face light up when she tasted the meal I had made for her.
I glanced at the clock, knowing it was almost time to wake her up. She had been sleeping soundly, and I wanted to make sure I didn't startle her awake. Instead, I decided to let her sleep for just a few more moments while I finished setting the table. I pulled out her favorite plates and cutlery, arranging everything just right.
Once I had everything ready, I walked quietly to the bedroom. Ashlynn was nestled under the covers, her little figure curled up and peaceful. I couldn't help but smile at how much joy she brought into my life. It had been a little over two weeks since she had moved in with me, and I could already see how much more secure and comfortable she felt.
Gently, I sat on the edge of her bed, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "Hey, sweet girl," I whispered softly, "it's time to wake up."
As she stirred, her eyes fluttered open, and for a moment, I could see a flash of confusion cross her face before recognition set in. "Good morning, precious girl," I said, my voice low and soothing.
"Morning," she mumbled, still a bit sleepy but already starting to smile.
"Let's get you up and ready for the day, okay?" I helped her sit up, and we made our way to the bathroom. I turned on the faucet, letting the warm water flow before guiding her to wash her face.
"There we go," I said, encouraging her. "Just like that."
Once she was finished, I led her to the dining area. I could see her excitement growing as we approached the table. I lifted her into her booster seat, adjusting it carefully to ensure she was comfortable and secure.
"Are you ready for breakfast?" I asked, reaching for the plate of pancakes I had prepared. "I made your favorite—pancakes with strawberries!"
Her eyes widened, and a bright smile broke across her face. "Yay!" she squealed, clapping her hands in delight.
I placed the plate in front of her, watching as she eagerly grabbed her fork. The joy in her expression made every early morning worthwhile. "Enjoy, sweet girl," I said, taking my seat across from her, feeling a sense of warmth spread through my chest as we began our day together.
After we finished breakfast, I helped Ashlynn down from her booster seat, her face still bright with joy from the pancakes. "Alright, little one, let's get you ready for the day," I said, scooping her up in my arms.
"Yay!" she squealed, giggling as I carried her to the bathroom. I placed her on the counter, making sure she was stable before reaching for the toothbrushes. I grabbed her favorite purple toothbrush, the color reflecting her vibrant personality. "Ready to brush those teeth?" I asked, holding it up for her to see.
"Yes!" she chirped, her excitement evident.
As we began brushing our teeth, I caught her eye in the mirror and made a silly face, crossing my eyes and puffing out my cheeks. She burst into laughter, her giggles echoing off the bathroom walls. I couldn't help but smile at how easily her laughter could brighten my day.
"Look at me, I'm a funny monster!" I exclaimed, contorting my face into another ridiculous expression.
"Daddy monster!" she replied, giggling even harder. Her laughter was infectious, and I found myself enjoying this simple moment as much as she was.
