Wei Wuxian looked around one last time, his entire body ached and yet he felt numb.
As he saw the utter destruction before him - from the cultivators fighting against his fierce corpses to the dead bodies of the Wen renmants he had tried so hard to protect.
The ones he had failed to protect.
There was fire everywhere and blood on his eyes which impaired his vision greatly.
He could feel tears streaming down his cheeks cleaning the blood on the same - he hadn't hurt his face, but he had killed far too many cultivators to be aware of whose blood it was.
He wasn't aware of who the blood on his face belonged to, the owner of the blood on his hands, the blood on his clothes; he just didn't know.. but there was so much blood.. and none of it belonged to him...
So many dead..
And it was all his fault.
Seeing all the pain and suffering he had caused, Wuxian wondered if it were ever worth it?
He didn't regret it. He did the right thing, and he would never regret saving Wen Qing and her family.
But now that his shijie died and her son was orphaned, now that Jiang Cheng led the cultivators to go against him, now that everyone was dead..
It has already come to this...
Wuxian's thoughts were panicked and rushed, nothing was thought through he just wanted peace...
He wanted all of this to be over, he wanted his family back, to be happy again, he wanted to sleep...
To sleep all the pain away and move on, like none of this had ever happened.. to no longer feel the pain, to no longer bare the loss of all his loved ones. No longer bare the suffering of all his faults.
As he finally made his decision, he used the stygian seal one last time...
Raising his hand up as his body raised in the air, he could see the pure fear from all cultivators at the sight of the amulet on his hand.
He smiled - a smile so pitiful to anyone who could care. But to the cultivators who had joined on that day to kill the patriarch, that smile was maniacal; a crazed smile from a psychotic killer who had been overtaken by his own power, driven to madness by his own self, out of pure will - this was all Wei Wuxian was to them, a crazy, tyrannical villain.
Not a war veteran.
Not a strong cultivator.
Not the spokesperson for the weak... not even human.
In his crazed moment, watching the blood bath he'd created Wei Wuxian laughed.
He laughed like he once did when he was young and full of live, like he once did when he pranked his shidi, like he did when he pranked Lan Wangji...
Lan Zhan... he stopped for a second, reconsidering for a moment, before shaking the thought away, he hates me he thought before looking down.
There's nothing left.
The way he laughed, the way his body was raised in the air, sustained by nothing but his own clouds of resentment and the way tears streamed down his eyes as he looked down at the cultivators.
His messy hair, his bloody robes, his smile... all of it.
It was but his own self-fulfilling prophecy... he had become exactly what they said him to be, he had become all the people saw when they thought of the Yiling Patriarch.
