Kanae and Shanks were 17 years old and still a couple when the time came for Shanks to form his own crew with his beloved, but before that, Kanae always had in mind what Roger told her in Impel Down, now was her chance to do something about it.

"Hey, Shanks," Kanae called seriously.

"What's happening?" He asked almost surprised and scared at such seriousness.

"There's something I haven't told you."

"Tell me."

"The captain had a son... or a daughter," she confessed.

"Uh..." he thought for a moment. "What?!" He was surprised, he didn't expect it at all. "How do you know?"

"He told me, Shanks..."

"But then where is them?"

"The island where he was born, Baterilla, in the sout blue."

"Do you want us to go?"

"No, it's very risky, the marines know where the captain spent his last year, that island could be infested with marines, if we get closer, they could discover them."

"If they aren't already..."

"Don't say that, the captain told me to trust the woman he loved, and I trust."

"Then me too."

"I'd like to know if he's a boy or a girl."

"You really like children," Shanks smiled.

"I'll send a letter."

"Do you know their data?"

"I only know that the captain's beloved is called Portgas D. Rouge."

"Hey, how do you know so many details?"

"That doesn't matter, before he died the captain gave me all the details, he wanted me to watch over his child and that's what I'll do."

"I won't ask you any more, but you could trust me a little."

"I... I went to see him at Impel Down."

"You what?!"

Kanae told him all the details.

"In my life I thought it was that easy to pass the security of such a prison..."

"It wasn't, I think being off duty for so long prevented them from recognizing me, even so, I was recognized by Garp, but the captain did something so he wouldn't give the infiltration notice..." Kanae explained as she wrote the letter.

"You were very lucky."

When she finished, she immediately sent the letter, it would take a long time to receive an answer or maybe never. In this case, there was a response after a few weeks. The person who responded to the letter gave them the bad news, Rouge had died and the boy had already left with a man from the navy.

"Garp..." Kanae knew immediately who it was. "So his name is Ace, huh?" She smiled.

"I'm so sorry, Kanae," Shanks lamented after looking at her so sad.

"Okay... at least Ace is still alive somewhere and I'm going to find him, but Rouge-san... she's with dad."

"Kanae..."

"Yes?"

"You'll find him," he said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Yes," she smiled at him.

I know Shanks never knew certainty about Ace being Roger's son, he had a hint according to Ace's novel, so I wanted to Kanae tell him the truth.
