Full Moon I
"Hand me that brush right there,"
Leigh Ann was in the process of combing and parting my unruly hair before straightening it." I'm low key kind of excited for tonight, it's been a while since I've done something outside of school ",
"Same! God, I can't even remember the last time I did something fun..."
We stayed quiet for a few moments, Leigh Ann's brow furrowed with a look of intense concentration as she focused on finishing my hair. I had grown comfortable in her presence so the silence wasn't awkward.I took in my surroundings. Leigh Ann's room was very neat and clean, everything in its proper place. Her choice in room decor surprised me - it gave a whimsical earthbound type of vibe. She had celestial art hung on her walls that depicted angels and cherubs among the stars and moon, some with their arms reached out in longing for something. I recalled thinking how Leigh Ann was like an angel. An angel with a room full of angels. How fitting.
I noticed she had a large collection of geodes and crystals lined out by her bedroom window.
"It's to let them charge in the moonlight. It's a full moon tonight, " she explained.
"You know what they say about a full moon, right?" She asked while finishing my flat ironed hair with hairspray.
"I've always heard a full moon brings chaos. My mom worked nights at a hospital as a nurse aid a long time ago, she said every time she ended up working on a full moon it was hell. Shit hits the fan I guess. I don't know, I've never paid attention to that sort of thing." I replied." Huh...That's an interesting take ...I've always heard and experienced the opposite. Energies do run high on a full moon. But it's a night for spiritual openness, creativity, unbridled passion. And... It's a perfect evening for manifestation."
I was posed to ask my friend to clarify what she meant by manifestation when she spun the chair around for me to face her vanity mirror.
"Look good?"'Leigh Ann had done an outstanding job.
"Perfect!" Straightening my unruly mane was such a tedious task, so I was elated Leigh Ann offered to do it. She seemed to quite enjoy all things hair, makeup and beauty related. We spent the next hour or so primping and prepping for the show. I did my makeup in her bathroom with the door open while Leigh Ann sat at her vanity curling her beautiful blond hair.
"So we're meeting Chelsea and Brandon there, and I think Austin's gonna be there, too." The last part of that sentence made me peer at my friend, and I couldn't help but laugh.
"You're blushing!"
"Liar!" This caused her to blush more.
"You definitely are, but whatever you say!" I rolled my eyes playfully at her and went back to applying my makeup. Austin is the guy Leigh Ann has been interested in for quite some time, but he's recently out of a relationship and Leigh Ann explained she doesn't want to come on too strong or ruin her chances with him by seeming too eager. I told her he'd be a fool to deny her, and thought to myself he probably has no clue she's into him. Because if he did, any man would jump at the chance to just spend time with her." Don't have a meltdown or anything but apparently Ari's band is gonna be playing tonight."
"Oh really?" I feigned surprise.
"Yeah but it shouldn't be a problem, I doubt he'll mess with you. He'll be too wrapped up in his music and stuff."
"Yeah, probably. I'm not worried about it,". And I truthfully wasn't. I don't know what came over me, but I was feeling very calm, in that moment I wasn't as bothered by how he treated me. This isn't to say he was forgiven, on the contrary - I was still deeply disturbed by his behavior. I just wasn't going to let that memory keep me from enjoying myself this evening. I was determined to have a good time, come what may.We finished getting dressed and ready for the evening. I had to admit, we were both quite gorgeous all dolled up. Leigh Ann let me borrow an outfit and a gorgeous pair of boots that looked to be worth more than all of my possessions combined. We both wore similar long sleeve blouses with blue jeans. We took a few photos together and decided to grab a quick meal before leaving. We both checked our lipstick in the mirror one last time before heading out for the night.
