Harrison looked at me, his face compassionate, "Welcome to the Runaways, Lily told me about you, you sound lovely," the Runaways... something stuck out to me about that word... independence and freedom, all in one word. I smiled, glancing at Lily, who was digging through a pile of garbage, and spoke, "Runaways..." My voice in almost awe, I look to Harrison again, who nods to me in response.
"For 5 years me and this group have scavenged along the city, trying to find a living for ourselves, recently, we lost our leader, he ran away, his name was Tom, we don't talk about that anymore..." I frown, my mouth slightly gaped as I stare at the group, so many kids joined together to help each other, support each other, and even die for each other... I smiled, watching closely as the group dispersed. I walk towards Lily, stopping infront of her, "Hey, Lily? Thus place seems amazing, these people, amazing, we should stay with them!" She has a grown on her face, but I can't tell why.
Why isn't she happy? Why isn't she grateful? Am I being naive? "Max... you have to listen to me... these people, are nuts" my eyes widen in surprise, "what? No! You're being crazy! And paranoid! They're fine! Just let it go! Okay?" She leaned in, slightly closer, desperate to be discreet, "I saw them, they were eating a guy, a random man, from the streets" my eyes widened further, disgusting washing over me, "you... you saw that?" She nodded
