Rimuru's POV:

I walked out of the sealed cave satisfied with my harvest.

The cave was full of hipokute herb and magic ore, all of which I had harvested.

My deal with Veldora was still in effect. He would release his aura in the cave, where I could easily acquire these rare material.

I not only gained these materials but I also acquired new skills by consuming the monsters in the cave.

Black serpent; [Poison breath] and [Heat detection]

Evil centipede; [Paralysis Breath]

Black spider; [Sticky thread] and [Steel thread]

Vampire Bat [Vampirism] and [Ultrasound waves]

Armorsaurus; [Body armor]

Slime; [Dissolve] [Absorb] and [Regenerate]

The abilities did exactly what the names says.

[Poison breath] gives the user the ability to release a powerful toxic and corrosive breath.

[Vampirism]; by sucking the target’s blood I can temporarily gain its abilities. It was a useless ability if you ask me.

I mean, [Devourer] is simply better. Would it be too presumptuous to consider [Vampirism] its degraded version?

The slime's abilities to dissolve and absorb were useful, so it was integrated into [Devourer] even though my skill could already do those things.

My favourite so far is [Steel Thread].
It is intended to be used to defend against enemy attacks or when making a nest, it can be used to increase your advantage.

But what I tried was to make one thin thread and whip it at a tree.

It easily cut through, slicing the tree in two. It was a dangerous and cool ability. It reminded me of Rui the spider demon from Demon slayer.

I couldn't help but snicker as I thought of all the things I could do with this ability.

Alas, those were the six species I encountered. I could also mimic their forms but that was redundant. Their forms didn't exactly make me stronger.

As I strolled through the woods, I couldn't help but notice how quiet everywhere was.

It made me recall what happened a month ago.

After training very hard, learning to perfectly control his excess power, Veldora had finally learned how to completely erase his aura and presence.

He made sure to boast about it to me, going as far as to completely erase his presence for as long as he could to see just how long he could maintain such a state.

For beings with alot of magicules such as True dragons, it is necessary to release at times or else.......

I shivered thinking about what would happen.

As I continued to walk, I couldn't help but notice that there were no monsters within a hundred metres of me.

It was strange. You could find any sort of monster no matter where you are in the forest. So not seeing a monster even after walking so far was puzzling.

My aura was completely erased, so there's no way I would be detected.
Unless........

I suddenly felt a group of monsters approaching. They were small in size, their equipment plain and crude. Their faces were dirty and devoid of intelligence, but they weren't entirely bestial. There were also a few who wore swords, spears, stone axes, and bows.
