The next few days flew by in a blur of stolen moments and laughter. Yoko found herself spending nearly every free moment at Faye’s place, a haven away from her parents and their constant questioning. They didn’t know the whole story, but the way Yoko dashed out the door each morning, almost tripping over herself to get out, was a clear giveaway that something was up.

On a bright Thursday morning, Yoko sat in her first class, her mind wandering as she absentmindedly scrolled through her phone. She couldn’t help but smile when she saw a message from Faye.

Faye: Good morning, beautiful! Ready for an adventure after classes?

Yoko’s heart raced. She quickly typed back.

Yoko: Always! What do you have in mind?

A few minutes later, her phone buzzed again.

Faye: How about a little beach trip? Just us, some snacks, and the ocean. What do you say?

Yoko grinned, excitement bubbling within her.

Yoko: I’m in! Can’t wait to get away from this place.

Classes dragged on, but the thought of spending the day with Faye kept her spirits high. Between lectures and group discussions, she found herself daydreaming about their time together, imagining the sun on her skin and Faye’s laughter mixing with the sound of waves crashing on the shore.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Yoko’s last class ended. She practically raced to the parking lot, her heart pounding with anticipation. She quickly texted Faye.

Yoko: Class is over! Can’t wait to see you!

Faye: On my way!

A moment later, Yoko spotted the familiar black BMW rounding the corner. Faye pulled up, her windows down, a bright smile lighting up her face. “Ready for some fun?” she called out, her voice filled with enthusiasm.

Yoko hopped into the passenger seat, unable to contain her excitement. “More than ready! Let’s go!”

As they drove toward the beach, the sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm glow over everything. Yoko and Faye chatted about their week, sharing stories and jokes, both grateful for the carefree atmosphere surrounding them. “I brought some snacks for us!” Faye announced, reaching into the backseat to grab a bag. “Sandwiches, chips, and a few of those gummy candies you like.”

“You’re the best!” Yoko beamed, her heart swelling with affection as Faye’s thoughtfulness made her feel cherished.

When they arrived at the beach, Yoko took a deep breath, inhaling the salty air. “This place is perfect!” she exclaimed, kicking off her shoes and running toward the shore, the sand cool beneath her feet. Faye followed, laughing as Yoko splashed through the waves, her laughter mingling with the sound of the ocean. They spent hours building sandcastles, collecting seashells, and lying on the warm sand, soaking up the sun.

“Isn’t this just what we needed?” Faye said, lying back on her elbows and glancing over at Yoko, who was digging in the sand. “Definitely! I love this,” Yoko replied, her heart soaring. The worries of school and her parents faded away, leaving only the warmth of the sun and the happiness of being with Faye.

As the sun began to set, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky, they packed up their things and headed back to the car, their hearts light and full. Yoko felt a sense of contentment she hadn’t experienced in a long time. “I can’t believe how much fun we had,” Yoko said, leaning back in her seat as they drove home. “We should do this more often.”

Faye grinned, glancing at Yoko with warmth in her eyes. “Absolutely. Anytime you need to escape, I’m here.”

But the moment of joy was fleeting. As Yoko stepped into her house later that evening, she was greeted by the sight of her parents waiting for her in the living room, their expressions serious. A flicker of panic shot through her. “What’s going on?” she asked, glancing between them.
