Yoko stirred, her eyes fluttering open to the soft light filtering through the hotel curtains. She felt the warmth of Faye beside her, the sense of peace and safety cocooning her. But the tranquility was shattered by the sounds of students and teachers moving through the halls, calling for everyone to wake up for the day's activities.
Panic surged through Yoko. They had fallen asleep together in Faye's room, a mistake that could have serious repercussions if anyone found out. She nudged Faye gently. "Faye, wake up," she whispered urgently.
Faye's eyes opened slowly, a lazy smile spreading across her face before realization struck. "Oh no," she muttered, sitting up abruptly. "We need to get ready. Fast."
They scrambled to gather their belongings, their movements hurried and frantic. Yoko's heart pounded in her chest as she quickly dressed, every sound from the hallway amplifying her anxiety. They exchanged a brief, worried glance before Yoko slipped out of the room, checking to ensure the coast was clear.
Yoko rushed down the hall, her thoughts racing. She approached her room with trepidation, hoping Marissa was still asleep. As she opened the door, Marissa was already up, her face a mix of concern and curiosity.
"Where have you been?" Marissa demanded, her eyes narrowing. "I woke up and you were gone. I was worried."
Yoko took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. "I'm sorry, Marissa. I... I need to tell you something." She sat down on the bed, motioning for Marissa to join her. "I was with Faye."
Marissa's eyes widened. "Wait, what? You mean... all night?"
Yoko nodded, her cheeks flushing. "Yes. We fell asleep in her room."
Marissa's concern turned to shock. "Yoko, that's... risky. What if someone saw you?"
Yoko swallowed hard. "I know. It was a mistake. But... it was also incredible. We were together, Marissa. Really together."
Marissa's expression softened, a mixture of surprise and understanding. "Wow. That's... a lot. But you have to be careful, Yoko. This could get both of you in serious trouble."
"I know," Yoko whispered. "But I can't help how I feel about her."
Marissa sighed, pulling Yoko into a comforting hug. "Just promise me you'll be more careful. I don't want anything to happen to you or Faye."
Yoko nodded, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders from sharing her secret. "I promise."
The final day's activities were a blur for Yoko and Faye. They moved through the itinerary with the other students, but their minds were elsewhere, still reeling from the morning's scare. They exchanged glances throughout the day, each look a silent reassurance that they were in this together.
As the group visited the last site, a beautiful temple bathed in the golden light of the afternoon sun, Yoko found herself standing next to Faye, their hands brushing briefly before they pulled away.
"Are you okay?" Faye asked softly, her eyes filled with concern.
Yoko nodded. "Yes. Just a little shaken. Marissa knows, and she's worried, but she understands."
Faye squeezed her hand quickly before letting go. "We'll be okay. We just need to be more careful."
Yoko smiled, feeling a sense of solidarity. "I know. I trust you."
The bus ride back to the university was filled with chatter and laughter, students recounting their favorite moments from the trip. Yoko sat with Marissa, who threw her a supportive smile every now and then, while Faye kept a careful distance, sitting with the other chaperones.
