Flashback:
"Okay, go ahead and introduce yourself." Mr Guzman told a timid and shy Dev. He had curly ginger hair and didn't wear shades. "Um, my name is Dev Dimmadome, uh I, it is really nice... I mean... to meet you..." he muttered.
"Dev's dad had Dev transfer here. Since he is new here, he might need help adjusting. So let's all help him out, okay?" Mr Guzman informed the class.
After class, classmates surrounded the timid boy.
"So, what school did you go to before coming here?" A girl asked him.
"Were you in any clubs? Like sports, or art?" Another girl asked.
"What is it like being a Dimmadome?" A boy asked him.
"I, uh..." Dev just responded. The meek Dev turned even more timid.
Soon, Hazel interrupted the conversation. "Hello Dev, Mr Guzman asked me to give you a tour of the school."
"Oh... uh... we Dimmadomes don't need tours..." Dev said in a timid tone.
"You sure..?" Hazel asked him.
Dev gave in and decided to have Hazel show him around. The two kids leave the classroom and start to head to the nurse's office. Hazel leads the way as Dev follows timidly behind. "Sorry about that. They don't mean any harm... They're just excited because we don't get many transfer students." Hazel apologized to him.
"No, it's okay... Thank you very much." Dev told her.
"Hey, don't be so nervous. We're classmates, after all." Hazel smiles gently to reassure Dev. "My name is Hazel Wells."
"I..."
"Don't worry! We're already friends!" Hazel told him.During the next class, Dev stands before the blackboard to solve a problem. Completely confused, she's covered in cold sweat. The math teacher watches awkwardly. "Oh, you've been away from school, haven't you? Why don't you ask a friend to let you copy their notes?"
And during PE class, Dev sits in a corner of the field, her complexion pale, watching his classmates happily compete at the long jump. Boys gossip noisily as they look over to Dev. "He got light-headed just from doing warm-ups? That's pretty bad." A boy gossiped.
"I don't think he's used to this." Another boy replied to the other. On the way home, Dev walks home by himself, dejected. Self-loathing and inferiority fills his mind. Focusing only on his feet, Dev is completely oblivious to her surroundings, his mind lost in thought. "All I ever do is make trouble for others and embarrass myself... Why? Will I be like this... forever?" He thought.
From within her dejected mind, an evil voice whispers, "It'd be better if you just die right now, wouldn't it?"
Dev just agrees with the voice. "Maybe it would."
"Yeah. You should just die right now." The voice told him again.
"I should die..." Dev muttered to himself. A few moments later, he had returned to her senses. He then realizes that he had stumbled into a labyrinth.
"Where am I..?" He asked himself with a frightened tone. He then sees a witch reveal to him. "No! Stay away from me!"
Before she could try and run away, a magical beam binds the witch.
"That was a close one." A boy told him as he approached Dev. It was Peri.
"It's okay now, Dev. We're here!" Hazel told him in a calming tone.
"What's going on..?" Dev asked them.
"They are magical warriors." Irep asked the ginger-haired boy. He then approached him. "They hunt witches."
"Our secret didn't last very long, huh? Please don't tell anyone else in class Dev." Hazel told him. Hazel and Peri quickly kill the witch. After killing the witch, Peri invited Dev and Hazel to his apartment.Peri serves fruit slices to Hazel and Dev. Dev knew his father wouldn't care if he was late or not.
"Hazel... do you always fight those things?" Dev asked her in worry. He wouldn't care for anyone else's safety, but on Hazel. Hazel was his first friend after all.
"Peri is the veteran here. I just made my contract with Irep a week ago." Hazel said truthfully.
"But, your performance today was a big improvement from last time." Peri told his student.
"But, isn't it dangerous?! You're not scared, right?" Dev asked in a worried tone.
"Well, it is dangerous, and I do get scared. But, the more witches we defeat, the more people we can save. So, it is worth it." Hazel told him.
"Since Walpurgisnacht is coming in a few weeks, it is best that Hazel continues to train before we eventually do defeat it." Peri stated. Hazel nodded.
