Was it a stupid idea planning for a whole day? Yes.
Did the Rangers care? Yes.
The Rangers had twelve hours left till the Crystallis Empress would awake, and the pressure was getting to them.
They were in the Chamber, sporting their Crystallis Jackets, with Lithon and Alara, looking over papers and screens.
"What I've got here," Alara says, "is that you won't be able to stay there long."
"Ah, yes." Professor Lithon said. "Due to your, well, humanity, you cannot stay there long. Your suits will protect you from the radiation but it won't take long for it to soak past your suits."
"Radiation?" Leo asked. "Like, die-if-we-stay-too-long radiation?"
"Great." Zara gritted her teeth.
You might be wondering where they were going to. Well, Kai had the bright idea that they use the Celestial Crystal as a key into the Obsidian Abyss so they destroy the Empress before she wakes.
"I'm still not sure about this plan." Conners said, his voice shaking slightly with nervousness.
"Don't worry. This plan is foolproof." Kai said.
"Like the plan to defeat Lustre?" Leo said, chuckling. No one laughed.
"Joking around isn't going to stop the Empress from waking up." Conners said.
"Just trying to lighten the mood.." Leo said.
"Well," Conners responded, his voice growing louder. "Maybe you-"
"Chill out, you two!" Zara said, standing between the two boys. "Ugh, boys."
Damien was quiet, studying ancient transcriptions from Planet Caro. His eyes suddenly widened.
"This says that long before the Crystallis Empress inhabited the Obsidian Abyss, it once held ancient ruins." Damien said.
"Like the Fluorite Gem, used to make the Crystanoids." Zara said.
"Worse." Damien said. "It says that the Ruby Shard was once inhabited there."
"Wait, the Empress won't be at full power for a while if she wakes, right?"
"Yes." Alara and Lithon said at the same time.
"So, what if the reason The Overlord hasn't used the Ruby Shard on us yet is because he's saving it to power his mother?"
Conners frowned. "So.. now we have to find the Ruby before them too."
Kai rubbed his eyes. "Guys, I get it. The odds aren't great but we don't have time for perfect plans. We'll adapt like we always do."
"They say the teenage years are the best." Zara said, expressionless. "They lied."
---
After making sure of a few more things, it was time. The Rangers went into the Quantum Room of the Crystallis Chamber, the Celestial Crystal in the center of the room. They stood in a straight horizontal line, Kai in the middle. Professor Lithon and Alara stood before them, Alara sitting down, her eyes glued to a monitor screen.
"Rangers, do well to remember the radiation. I'd say you'd have about two and a half hours to get out before the radiation gets to you in there." Professor Lithon said.
Leo wiped sweat from his forehead. "Yeah, we got this."
Damien frowned. "Be realistic, Leo. We don't got this."
"Alara, you'll be able to guide us, right?" Kai said. No response.
Zara reinforced the question. ".. Right?"
