Choices and Consequences

Approximately 17 years ago

"Never in my life, I would think that I would be taking care of a dhampir and a guardian at the same time." Aamarah murmured to herself. "You little one is making me run out of diapers." She laughed while changing Princess Amelie's diaper. "This one is heavy! Whoops!" She feigned falling because of the weight and baby Malthus laughed. "Aw baby you are laughing at mommy?" She threw it in the trash bin and went to wash her hands. This was how busy she was every day. Now she had to prepare something for them to eat. They needed a special formula to keep them healthy and strong. It wasn't hard on her to feed Malthus because Guardians mainly consumed fruits. A fruit smoothie was all that he needed. Princess Amelie on the other hand was a different case.

In the end she chose the dietary option that would be the most ideal for a dhampir in a mortal realm. She gave her regular baby formula like the humans. The only drawback is that she will not be as powerful as other dhampirs when she gets older. Her dominant side will be human and that seemed perfect to Aamarah since they will be staying in the mortal world for a really long time, if not forever. Queen Petrova would not be pleased when she hears but if she insists on making the princess's dominant side a vampire then there will be problems in Bayside.

"Still giving the child baby formula?" Her voice startled her so much that the bottle nearly dropped out of her hands.

"Hello your highness- "

"Please stop the formalities. My name is Yvette."

"I am sorry Yvette." She stood staring at her dumbfounded.

"So, aren't you going to feed the baby? You don't plan on starving my son's soul carrier now?"

"No! Of course not! I would never!"

"Relax!" She laughed. "I was just joking! I know that you love the princess like your own." She smiled assuredly. "But you do know the consequence of feeding her on human food?"

"Yes, your highness, I do not want her to be a vampire in a world of humans. I prefer her safety over strength."

"Again, it's Yvette. You don't plan to raise her on your own right? I understand that you want her to be next to her guardian but what if they find you. Do you want them to kidnap them both?"

"But they can't find us. I used the last black crystal to come here."

"Yes, you did, yet here I am with my family, or what is left of it."

"Sorry to hear about your King. May his path be reformed."

"I sure hope it does." Yvette thought absentmindedly. "But nobody knows what happens to a Supreme after they are killed. How exactly does one path reform? Anyways I am sure that you know there are other ways to access this realm. We just have to be cautious and keep a low profile." She moved closer to the princess, but Aamarah blocked her path. "Why are you blocking me? Are you forgetting that this child is my son's soul carrier? If I harm her in any way, it will reflect on my son." Aamarah moved out of the way but still kept a watchful eye on the Queen. "Well, aren't you beautiful?" She cradled the baby in her arms. "You have your mother's eyes." The baby happily took the bottle from her and began drinking the feeding.

"Can you tell me the story of how you came here without the crystal?" Aamarah queried.

"It is a long story but, in the end, I had to go through the Realm of the Elves. They teleported me here." She gently rested the baby in the crib and came close to Aamarah. "Why don't you let me take care of the child? I can make her into a powerful vampire instead of a weak human. I am sure Queen Petrova would be grateful for that! A Supreme trained her daughter to become the most powerful dhampir. Together with my son they would become indestructible. After all she is his soul carrier." She added. "In the end, think about what is best for the Princess."

"I will think about it." Aamarah finalized. "My apologies  your highness but I have to put my son to sleep."

"No! That is fine. I was just leaving anyway. Think about what I said. I await your response." Then she left. Only a cool gush of air was left behind as evidence of her recent presence.

Aamarah did not speak her thoughts for the rest of the night. She did not know if anyone was watching, If the Queen of the Eastern Kingdom can find her then she is sure anyone else can.

At the end of the night, she looked up the invisible spell and how to use it. She will need it soon.

She had been watching this couple ever since she came here. They had the most loving union she had ever seen. They had kind and gentle souls. If they were back in her world they would belong in the Afterlife; the place where all golden hearted angels lived, or maybe they would be elves, always happy and enjoying life.

"Do not cry, my Princess. I will always be here watching over you." She gave her one final kiss on the forehead and rang the doorbell.

The woman came out and immediately gasped when she saw the baby wrapped in towels on the porch. "Sweetheart!" She called for her husband, too startled to even move.

"Yes dear? What's wrong?" He followed her gaze and let out a startled sound. "Could this be an answer to our prayers?" They both looked at each other. "Well let me take her up! We can't let her stay there."

"How do you know it's a girl?" the wife smiled. "Are you serious right now? Look at her beautiful face. Only girls are this pretty." They all laughed.

Aamarah quickly covered her mouth, but they had already heard her. The invisibility spell should have came with a silence option. Oddly enough the wife thanked her.

"We know that you are here. Thank you, God, for this blessing. We will love her with all of our hearts. We promise with our life." When they closed the door, she knew that she made the right choice giving her up for adoption.

This family was best for the Princess.
