"What the hell was that?" Max asked, clearly in confusion. His tone wasn't harsh. It was more incredulous, like he'd just seen a unicorn stroll by.

I was slumped on the plush couch in my trailer. Somehow we managed to escape the post-show pandemonium and find a moment of quiet.

"I didn't even know you talked to Eilish, y/n." he said, still trying to wrap his head around it.

"I was going to tell you, Max I just...I don't know. I guess I wanted to keep it to myself for a bit." The words tumbled out, sounding flimsy and half-baked, even to me.

Max leaned his back against the wall, crossing his arms. "Keep it to yourself?" he repeated, his voice softening, but still laced with disappointment. "The Billie Eilish casually drops by after your Coachella set, and you didn't think to mention anything to me? You know, your manager."

I could tell he wasn't mad, but he was trying to piece it all together, just like I was. My mind replayed the moment. Her body so close to mine I feel her breathing on my skin. Her devious eyes staring deeply into mine. It felt surreal even now, like something I'd dreamed of in my sleep.

"I mean, yeah I guess." I mumbled, still trying to make sense of my own thoughts. "It wasn't like a planned thing. We'd message a few times, but I never actually expected to see her. She reached out to me for the first time after my show in Vegas, in the tour bus right after. I wanted to keep it to myself for a bit. Let it be mine before it became...everyone else's."

Max's expression softened as he absorbed my words, the crease between his eyebrows easing up. He let out a sigh, almost like he was trying to shake off the tension. "I get it," he said, his tone gentler now. "But you gotta understand, this is big. Like, huge. Billie Eilish doesn't just hang around backstage for anyone, especially not flirt with them." he said, raising an eyebrow. "I mean, is that another thing I missed?"

I blinked, taken aback. "Wait, what? Flirting? No, it wasn't like that Max. We were just...talking."

Max raised an eyebrow, a smirk creeping upon his face. "Really? Because from where I was standing, it looked like a lot more than 'just talking'. I'm sure anyone around us in that time could tell there was a lot more going on."

I scoffed, trying to keep my cool. "Okay, maybe she was being friendly, but that's just...that's how she is, right? She was just being nice."

Max's grin widened and he shook his head. "I know you're being defensive, but trust me I can read you like an open book, y/n. She was into you and you were blushing like a teenager."

I opened my mouth to protest, but no words came out. Instead, I just fumbled for a second, trying to find a way to downplay it. "I- It was nothing serious Max. It's not like..."

"Hey, relax." he chuckled, pushing himself off the wall. "I'm not giving you a hard time. I just think it was pretty obvious. I can't blame her, you killed it out there."

I finally let out a laugh, a bit of tension leaving my shoulders. "Thanks, Max. Let's just please keep this between us okay? No one can know, especially not my mom."

Max's smile softened and he nodded. "Don't worry y/n. Your secrets safe with me, but you do have to be careful. Whether it's when you post about her or wherever you talk to her, because if this was your first time talking to her and it was like that, I don't want to imagine the next several times. Just be careful, y/n."

I felt a jolt of anxiety, imagining the chaos if word got out. "I know. I don't even know what this is yet myself. I'm just...still processing."
