London
When we get to The King's the gang is already there. Sitting outside smoking in an old-fashioned waltzer with no wheels.
The seat runs from one side of the waltzer to the other, in a semicircular shape. A table installed in the middle of it holds everyone's drinks and an overflowing ashtray.
'Hey,' I smile at everyone and everyone smiles back. 'This is Roxy,' I say and point to Hennessy, 'Roxy this is Hennessy...'
'We already know of each other,' smiles Hennessy tightly, then points to the woman next to him, 'Roxy, London, this is Ruby.'
Ruby waves at us both, then inclines her head to the guy next to her and says, 'And this is...'
'Jameson,' I say, 'My oldest friend. At least in years.'
'Hey Man,' laughs Jameson. 'Play fair. Anyway me and Roxy already know each other. In fact, I've known Roxy since she was a little girl.'
'What the fuck Jameson? How have you never introduced me to her before?'
I look at Roxy with a grin on my face thinking our scents have crossed before. She's know Jameson longer than she's known me. I've known him longer that I've known her. We were destined to meet at some point. I'm about to point all this out, like a seventeen year old girl when I see how uncomfortable she looks. Why does she look like she wants to hide something?
Jameson waves a hand dissmissively and says, 'Different worlds.'
Roxy relaxes and smiles, like some secret I don't know is safe.
Jameson continues the Mexican wave of introductions and indicating the woman on his left, says, 'This is Lily.'
Lily is fucking staggering, the way all Jameson's women are. A short black bob with thick Bettie Davis bangs and eyes almost as black as her hair. 'Hi,' I croak at her and Roxy elbows me in the ribs, fury skipping across her face then turning into a smirk. Lily waves at us both then turns away looking bored.
Hennessy takes up the mantle of introductions and motions to the guy on Lily's left, 'And this is...'
'Mac,' says Roxy, staring at the guy in a paint splattered T-shirt, 'and his girlfriend Lilah. My sister.' Her words are hard, her eyes too.
What the fuck...Her sister...
Everyone suddenly looks uncomfortable... I stare at Roxy. 'Your sister? So Mac is...'
'My ex,' she grits out.
'Him?' I say, forcing incredulity into my voice. 'Really?' I look him up and down as if he's a half dead rat that the cat just brought in. He's clearly not. He's a fucking Dom with that quiet Dom energy very few can master, and he's cooked here before me. I want to rip his head off and throw it out of the club, then kick it around the block a few times. Maybe set fire to it.
He stares back at me. Doing that in control and contained thing that is clearly his thing. But I see his jaw tick.
I turn Roxy away from the waltzer and say quietly, 'Sorry Roxy. I didn't know they were going to be here. I thought it would be Hennessy, Jameson and their partners.' Then, loud enough for Mac to hear, I say, 'Not this joker who's playing your sister.'
Roxy winces, 'Yeah well. Looks like you just led me into the lion's den. Thanks for not doing your research.'
I can see she wants to walk out. Wants me to lead her out. But I can't back down. Not now that I've started a silent fight with Mac. And anyway, Jameson and Hennessy are my friends. I can't just walk out, I'll never hear the end of it. My eyes meet Hennessy's and he shrugs as if to say - I don't know what to do either.
