Knock Knock Knock
The knocking sound was relentless at Faye's door, a steady rhythm that felt like it was drilling into her skull. Her friends had gathered outside, their excited chatter rising and falling in the chilly night air, but all Faye wanted was a few more minutes of peace.
But the persistent knocking continued, a reminder that the "aunties" wouldn't take no for an answer. They were a force of nature—tireless and utterly convinced that they needed to pry her out of hiding. With a resigned sigh, she finally pushed herself off the chair, shuffling toward the door.
"What's the hurry?!" Faye was annoyed. She scratched her head in frustration before getting up to open the door.
As she turned the handle, Faye braced herself for the onslaught of questions and teasing that awaited her. To her surprise, her friends stood there grinning, arms full of beers and snacks.
Without waiting for her to welcome them, they barged into the house, settling into the living room as if it were their own. They often gathered at Faye's place for drinks and chats, making it their go-to spot for casual hangouts.
Faye stood there, puzzled, trying to recall what day it was. Was it their usual hangout day? She couldn't remember if they had set a date. Glancing at her friends with a skeptical look, she watched as they unpacked snacks and cracked open beers.
"P'Faye, what are you waiting for? Just close the door and get in here." Pam called out, a wide grin on their face.
"Brat." Faye thought, casting a killer side-eye at Pam, who was trying to stifle a laugh. Pam had a knack for stirring up trouble, and Faye could tell she was behind the surprise invasion.
Faye closed the door and walked toward them, casting a sidelong glance as if trying to decipher their motives.
"Come on, relax. We're just gathering here to have a nice drink after works!" one of her friends said, shoving a bottle of beer into Faye's hand.
"I don't remember us setting the date to hang out at my place tonight," Faye said, taking a sip of her drink. The coolness of the beer was refreshing.
"It's been a while since we last hung out."
"We know you need this." said one of her friends while tossing another drink to Faye.
"You've been so busy that we thought maybe you might have found someone you'd rather spend time with than us!"
"It's not like that" Faye tried to defense herself.
"We're just saying, why are you so worked up?"
"Who's worked up? I'm not!" Faye's voice rose slightly.
"Sure, sure." Pam mocked.
Her friends exchanged knowing glances, the teasing glint in their eyes only growing. They kept tossing drinks to Faye, determined to get her tipsy enough to spill the truth. They knew she was adorably candid when she was drunk, almost like a five-year-old in her honesty.
