The capital city was always bustling with people. Even though it wasn't rush hour, the streets and buses were packed.Answering the government's call to reduce car usage, Professor Wang took his grandson on the bus instead of driving. Although he owned a car, driving in the city didn't get you much further than walking. The bus was crowded, but Professor Wang's white hair prompted several young passengers to quickly offer their seats. Despite the crowd, young people these days seemed to have a good sense of civic duty, maybe because the city had recently won its bid to host the Olympics. As the elderly man sat down, holding a teenage boy on his lap, curious glances followed them. People wondered why an old man would be carrying such a big kid. "Excuse me, are you Professor Wang Xing?" A young man seemed to recognize him."I am," the old professor replied, surprised. "Do you know me, young man?"In his field, Professor Wang was a low-profile figure, and even fewer people knew him after he had been personally selected for a classified government project. The fact that this young man could recognize him was unexpected."A professor!?" The people around them now looked at Wang with awe and respect. The young man, now visibly excited, replied, "I'm a PhD student at the capital's Medical School! My supervisor, Li Jianbo, used to be your student. I've seen your photo at school. You're a leading authority in neuroscience!"Wang's face darkened as the student continued, "Is this your patient? He seems to have some... cognitive issues, haha!"Eager to show off his knowledge in front of a renowned professor, the student had unintentionally hit a sore spot."Son," Wang began with a sigh, "authority doesn't solve everything. Take me, for example—I may be considered one of the best in my field, but my wife suffered a stroke, and my grandson... well, he's intellectually disabled. What good is my expertise? Never put too much trust in authority. What you've learned through your own practice is the real truth.""My grandson...?" The young man's jaw dropped."What's your name?" Professor Wang asked."I'm Liu Wei. I'm so sorry, Professor. I didn't mean to upset you..."Wang waved it off. "It's alright. My grandson has improved quite a bit, though... But I'm getting old. One day, it'll be up to you, the next generation, to take care of him." The bus fell into a contemplative silence. Liu Wei quietly resolved to become a world-renowned neuroscientist, to serve his country and its people.Later that evening, Wang's daughter, Qili, welcomed her father and nephew warmly. She had often encouraged her father to move in with them, especially since her brother and his wife had passed away. But Wang always refused, worried that he would be a burden. He had even hired caretakers for his ailing wife."Jason, say hi to Auntie. Auntie will give you some candy!" Qili coaxed her nephew just as she had when he was five years old. Jason looked at her, conflicted, before hesitantly responding, "Auntie?"Just as Qili was about to reach for some candy, Jason interrupted, "I'm not a kid anymore. I don't need candy." Qili froze, feeling a wave of nostalgia. Ten years ago, Jason had said the exact same thing when she tried to coax him with candy, and the entire family had laughed at her. Back then, she had been a broke student and ended up giving him a hundred-yuan bill, which had been half her living expenses for the month.Smiling, Qili reached into her pocket and pulled out another hundred-yuan note. "Auntie's only got this much," she teased."I don't need money," Jason replied, just like he had a decade earlier. "I just want Auntie to play with me."Suddenly, it was as if Qili had stepped back in time. But this time, several family members were missing. Her heart ached as she pulled Jason into a tight embrace, crying uncontrollably.Wang looked on with cautious optimism. Maybe these familiar memories would help his grandson recover further.Jason, seeing his aunt in tears, reached up and awkwardly wiped her face. "Auntie, don't cry. Who bullied you? I'll make them pay!" Everyone froze. This was not like the quiet, withdrawn Jason they knew. "Jason, it's nothing," Qili said softly, looking deeply into his eyes. "Auntie was tricked by a bad guy, but you can't tell Grandpa or your dad, okay? Wait until you grow up, then you can help me get even, alright?"Jason, now animated, replied, "I promise! When I grow up, I'll teach him a lesson! I won't tell Grandpa or Dad. I'm a man; I can handle it all on my own!" He was practically bouncing with energy, making bold gestures as he spoke, his face suddenly filled with life. It was as if a switch had flipped in his brain. But just as quickly, he retreated back into himself, silent once more. Something had changed, though. He seemed lost in thought, as if trying to recall something distant.Qili tried asking him a few more questions but got no response. She sighed, disheartened.Wang Xing spoke up, "It seems like you and he share many memories. Maybe I was wrong... perhaps he should stay with you." "Of course, Dad. I practically raised him. He's more attached to me than he is to his parents. Why don't you both move in with us? The house is big enough, and we could hire another caretaker. Plus, I love him like my own child. I recognized him right away, didn't I? Please, Dad, you're getting older, and it would be easier for me to care for both of you."After some hesitation, Wang agreed. But he had one more question. "Earlier, when you were crying, you mentioned something from the past... What was that about?"Qili smiled. "Dad, that was years ago! How are you still thinking about it?""No, really," Wang insisted. "Your brother... before he passed, he blamed me for not looking after you two properly. I want to know now, what happened back then?"Her smile faded as she reminisced. "My brother said that? Well, yeah... growing up, we did feel like you didn't care about us much. Mom's stroke probably came from all the stress. But we got over it. You were dedicated to your work, and without that dedication, neither of us would have succeeded the way we did. "When I was in elementary school, Brother was already in high school. I used to get bullied by some local troublemakers, and one day, my brother found out. He beat them up, but it only made things worse. A gang of older kids came after him, and he ended up in the hospital for a week. But you and Mom were always busy, so we never told you. "I wasn't exactly a saint either. I was pretty rebellious, especially in middle school. I used to pick on little Jason all the time. He stole the only bit of attention I had left from Brother. After Brother got married and had Jason, he barely noticed me anymore. But because they were both so busy, I took care of Jason a lot. He grew closer to me than anyone else. We shared everything. "When I was in my senior year of college, I got dumped. My boyfriend left me for some rich older woman. I came home and cried my eyes out, but Jason found me. He was only seven at the time, and he told me he'd get revenge for me, just like today.""Jason..."Her soft voice called his name, and Jason looked up, confused. The faces in front of him were so familiar, but the names... he couldn't recall them."Your dad's name is Wang Yu. Your mom is Zhou Xiaodie. Your name is Wang Jason. I'm your Aunt Qili, and this is your Grandpa, Wang Xing," she said gently. Jason suddenly jumped up, his eyes wide. "Wang Xing? Where is Wang Xing?"Qili, startled by his reaction, quickly replied, "Your grandpa is Wang Xing, Professor Wang.""Grandpa?" Jason hesitated. "Who's Grandpa?"Before she could explain, Wang Xing stepped in. "I am Wang Xing. Are you looking for me?"Jason straightened up and saluted with military precision. "Please show your ID to verify your identity!"Wang Xing handed over his ID without hesitation. After examining it, Jason saluted again. "Wang Xing, sir! Falcon reporting for duty!" Qili was shocked, but Wang remained calm. "Who sent you to find me?""It was Dr. Xin Ke, sir."Wang's face paled. "What message did he leave?"Jason paused. "There's a message, but I need a computer with infrared input to access it."Dinner was forgotten. They rushed to set up Qili's high-end laptop, equipped with the necessary infrared technology. Jason quickly adjusted the settings, and soon, a video started playing on the screen. It was Dr. Xin, looking guilt-ridden. "Zixing, I hope you can forgive me. I was wrong. By the time you see this, I'll be gone. Don't ask who killed me—it was my own doing. I had no choice; they threatened my children. I've been trapped in the underground lab, with no way out. They brought in researchers and began their experiments . I thought I could control it, but I was too naive. I injected myself with the serum and... it worked, in a way. But I've lost my freedom. If I resist, they'll kill my family. You're the only one who can stop them now. They want to use the serum to create soldiers... I'm begging you, stop them!"

The video ended, and Jason blinked as if waking from a dream. He looked at his aunt and grandpa, confused again.
