It was said that the old man's wife could still be cured, so Professor Wang had no choice but to listen.

"Your grandmother's condition isn't that complicated. The blood vessels in her brain are clogged, which cuts off nutrients to the brain. If we could just unblock them, her brain would regain its vitality. It sounds simple, but current technology can't deal with those tiny microvascular blockages, especially inside the brain. You're young—how could you possibly clear out those vessels?" Professor Wang wasn't confident. After all, if it were possible, even former U.S. President Reagan wouldn't have spent his final days in a vegetative state.

"Grandpa, I don't know much about this either, but I need to show you something... something strange. Please, don't be too shocked!" Jason replied.

Professor Wang nodded, looking at his grandson in confusion.

Jason glanced around the room, his gaze settling on a crumpled piece of paper in the trash can. Professor Wang followed his eyes.

After a moment, Professor Wang rubbed his eyes. There was no mistake—the paper had floated up, as if lifted by an invisible hand. It drifted between Professor Wang and Jason.

Jason stared at it intensely, sweat starting to bead on his forehead. "Grandpa, cover my eyes, quick!" Jason shouted anxiously.

Professor Wang hurried over, placing his hands over Jason's eyes from behind.

"Burn!" Jason yelled.

As soon as the word left his mouth, the piece of paper instantly turned to ash—without so much as a spark or flame.

Professor Wang stood there, completely stunned, forgetting all sense of time. When Jason finally moved his hands away, Professor Wang could only stare blankly, stammering, "How... how did you do that?"

Jason slumped down on the desk, visibly exhausted. "I don't really know. It started when I was in bed one night. A mosquito was trying to bite me, and I just thought about freezing it in place. The next thing I knew, the mosquito was stuck, flapping its wings but unable to move. After that, I slowly learned to control it. But every time I use this ability, I get extremely tired. I think it might drain my mental energy."

Professor Wang was silent for a long time. Finally, he asked, "Have you told anyone else?"

"No. I've read enough to know that if I did, they'd probably cut me open for experiments..." Jason said, giving his grandfather a strange smile.

Professor Wang's face flushed with embarrassment. "Good that you know. Keep this to yourself. As for treating your grandmother, we don't have to rush. Maybe you're still too young and your mental strength isn't developed yet. You might need to train it somehow... For now, just practice on your own and use this ability sparingly. I'll find you a teacher."

Two months passed quickly, and the strange new infectious disease was officially named "SARS." Thanks to the government's strong efforts, the epidemic was soon brought under control, and public health measures improved across the board.

The streets became lively again, schools reopened, and life seemed to return to normal.

Seeing his sister, Flora, return to school made Jason a little envious. Everyone began to discuss whether Jason should go back to school too.

"I want to take the college entrance exam. I want to go to Tsinghua University!" Jason suddenly declared.

"You'd need at least two more years to get into Tsinghua," his aunt said, concerned about his intelligence level.

"You're still too young. Shouldn't you wait a couple more years before taking such a big exam?" his uncle added, worried about his mental readiness.

"I think Jason can take the exam now. My only condition is that his score can't be too outstanding!" Grandpa Wang, knowing Jason well, laughed. Except for his Chinese and English essays, where he might lose some points, every other subject with standard answers would be a breeze for him.
