It was a struggle not to grimace as I brought the cup of tea to my lips and took a sip, the bitter taste lingering on my palette as I set the cup to the side and picked up another chocolate-covered strawberry.
A small smile flitted to my lips as I stared at the abundance of food and beverages in front of me.
Locking eyes with Edward, I tried to ease the tension-filled atmosphere by saying, "Looks like you brought everything but the kitchen sink. The only thing missing is wine."
A look of surprise fell over his features, his brows knitting. "You.. You like wine? You drink?"
I chuckled at his bewildered expression, saying, "I'm kidding. I've only ever drank once in my life, and it was a total disaster..."
Indeed, it was. It did, however, result in my first kiss. A drunken, broken-hearted fueled kiss.
Before he had a chance to respond, I continued, pursing my lips as I added, "It did result in my first kiss though, so I guess it wasn't all bad."
His brows flew up his forehead so quickly that I feared they would fly away.
"Oh, really?" He questioned, pursing his lips. "That doesn't sound like a very nice way to experience your first kiss."
He was right. It certainly wasn't how I imagined my first kiss to transpire.
"Yeah, it wasn't ideal." I nodded in agreement, picking up an apple slice and dipping it in peanut butter.
Edward tilted his head to the side, studying me intently before asking, "Who was your first with, if you don't mind me asking?"
Immediately, my face heated up, a blush creeping to my cheeks.
"It was.. It was with Trevor." I admitted, pulling my lower lip between my teeth.
His eyes widened exponentially, his jaw dropping before snapping it shut with an audible click. "Oh. He was your first kiss. A drunken first kiss, no less."
His stern tone surprised me.
Breathing out a nervous laugh, I said, "Yeah..."
When I noticed his eyes flash with anger, I felt the need to defend Trevor. No doubt, Edward probably assumed that Trevor had taken advantage of my inebriated state.
"I wasn't that drunk," I was quick to say. "I was.. a bit tipsy, but—"
He cut me off mid-sentence. "Your first kiss should have been special, Elliana. I'm sorry that it wasn't."
My heart warmed in my chest at the sincerity in his voice. A small smile flitted to my lips as I locked eyes with his golden orbs.
"It's okay. It wasn't a bad first kiss." I assured him. "Could it have been better under different circumstances? Absolutely. But I don't regret it or anything."
